Gwen Stacy is making a return into Peter Parker's life as Spider-Man faces judgment in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #10.

Marvel announced a number of tie-in issues for the upcoming "Judgment Day" event, a massive crossover that launches this summer. One of the tie-ins is Amazing Spider-Man #10, which sees Peter have to answer for a moment that has long plagued him throughout his superhero career -- Gwen Stacy's death. The synopsis for the issue reads, "It's time for Spider-Man to be judged in Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s Amazing Spider-Man #10 and fans won’t be surprised to see which moment in Spidey’s history is going to weigh heavily on the proceedings. You don’t want to miss this very special issue that might just break your heart all over again." Cover art for the Amazing Spider-Man #10, designed by Romita Jr., further shows a shocked-looking Peter starring at a seemingly alive Gwen.

Marvel's Latest X-Men/Avengers Clash Appears to Be Bringing Gwen Stacy Back to Life

Gwen met a heartbreaking end in "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," a two-issue story arc that played out in 1973's The Amazing Spider-Man #121 and #122 by Gerry Conway, Gil Kane, John Romita, Tony Mortellaro, Artie Simek and David Hunt. In the storyline, the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn kidnaps Stacy, Peter's girlfriend at the time, and throws her off a large bridge when Spider-Man shows up to fight. Spider-Man shoots a web to save Gwen from the fall; however, he's unsuccessful in doing so and Gwen dies. Unsure whether or not she died from the whiplash caused by his web, Peter has long blamed himself for Gwen's death.

When Green Goblin escapes the scene, Spider-Man follows and nearly kills him in a warehouse, but ultimately can't bring himself to do it. In a moment Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man film brings to life in live-action, Green Goblin then attempts to impale Peter with his goblin, but Peter's spider-sense allows him to dodge the incoming device and it instead collides with Norman.

Following Gwen's death, Peter became close with Mary Jane, his other longtime love interest in Amazing Spider-Man continuity. Wells and Romita Jr.’s current Amazing Spider-Man run revealed that Mary Jane and Peter are no longer together and Mary Janes now has two children -- and seemingly a new partner -- Peter may or may not be aware of. The story continues in Amazing Spider-Man #2, which releases May 25.

Amazing Spider-Man #10 releases Sept. 28 from Marvel.
