The launch trailer for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy potentially teases cosmic superhero Adam Warlock.

The trailer, backed by Mötley Crüe's "Kickstart My Heart," sees the Guardians of the Galaxy taking on droves of enemies in their quest to unbalance The Universal Church of Truth. The game's variety of costumes, combat scenarios and mechanics are highlighted; Star-Lord darts and dives his way through enemies, shouting commands at his teammates while donning a selection of outfits pulled directly from the comics. The trailer closes with a quick montage of the game's supporting cast, highlighting characters like Cosmo, Mantis, Lady Hellbender, various members of the Nova Corp. and Peter Quill's mother. Even Adam Warlock, the recently cast new addition to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, supposedly appears.

"So, the shepherds found fresh flock," muses the silhouette. Developer Eidos Montreal and publisher Square Enix have yet to confirm whether the trailer's final figure is indeed Adam Warlock but the hair, glowing eyes and grand outfit have many fans excited. The use of The Universal Church of Truth implies Warlock's inclusion in the game as the origin of the intergalactic organization is canonically established by The Magus, a dark future version of Warlock created to challenge the galaxy's most powerful and deadly threats. It's currently unknown whether this particular story beat will be used by the game, as the only character previously shown to be associated with the church is Grand Unifier Raker.

The trailer also provides a better look at Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's Huddle mechanic. During combat, Star-Lord can summon his team together for a quick pep talk, quoting lyrics from one of the game's many licensed songs. If players choose correctly, the song will blast out of Star-Lord's Walkman, boosting team morale and providing the Guardians with a brief buff. The game features music from Rick Astely, Blue Oyster Cult, Joan Jett and a vast collection of other 80s rock hits, potentially influenced by James Gunn's Marvel Cinematic Universe take on the intergalactic group of misfits and outlaws.

Fans of Adam Warlock won't need to wait much longer to see if the powerful cosmic hero is in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The game launches for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on Oct. 26.
