Marvel is not just known for violent superheroes and villains, but also for some of the funniest characters in the comic world. In fact, humor occupies a central place in Marvel, both comics and (more importantly) Marvel cinematic Universe. As seen in Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel thrusts its humor upon the Mad Titan as wellRefer: Thanos' "it does put a smile on my face."

All the gags, jokes and haha-lines are specifically known as Marvel Humor. Not only are Wolverine, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange some of the major wisecracks in Marvel, there is a treasure house there. They don't call Marvel funny pages for nothing.

10 CAPTAIN AMERICA

Portrayed by Chris Evans, Captain America is one of the funniest wisecracks in the MCU. Have you seen, Civil War? Despite the dark storyline, gag and humor parallel in the movie. Forget the Steve Rogers you read in the comics, Marvel has portrayed a light-hearted Captain America version in the movies.

Some of his iconic likes are "That was not my first kiss since 1945. I'm 95, not dead". Capt. blurts this out as he and Romanoff kiss subconsciously to make Rumlow uneasy. Or the time when Thor explains he was with the Avengers for no-nonsense business.

Thor: I've come here to put an end to Loki's schemes

Steve Rogers: Then prove it. Put that hammer down.

9 SHE-HULK

She-Hulk reading an Incredible Hulk comic

The Superhero has been around for quite some time now, the 1980s. Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk struggled with her Hulk-like appearance initially. As she took the sexist remarks in her stride, she became Marvel's first character to break the fourth wall. That means that Jennifer/ She-Hulk possesses the ability to talk directly to the masses through the screen, long before Deadpool and Gwenpool even had that chance.

This was thanks to her reinvention by John Byrne in 1989 in Sensational She-Hulk, more specifically through issues #1-8, followed by #31-50.  Remember the cover page of The Sensational She-Hulk? Shulkie on the cover goes, "if you don't buy my book, I am gonna come to your house and rip up all your X-Men." Don't take her threats lightly.

8 SQUIRREL GIRL

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #50

Squirrel Girl's way of getting recruited into Avengers was to attack Iron Man, so she  could show him her side-kick worthiness. But of course, Tony rejects her. After she saves Tony Stark from the supervillain Doctor Doom, she loudly proclaims "Well, that wasn't hard at all."

Doreen Green aka Squirrel Girl started as a gag character in Marvel, a break from the dour heroes of the 90s. In Great Lakes Avengers, Doreen possesses the ability to constantly break the fourth wall, along with her side-kick Monkey Joe. She's also responsible for beating up the entire Marvel Universe on more than one occasion.

7 SPIDER-MAN

Peter Parker aka Spider-man, despite his mentoring by Tony Stark, knows how to extract fun out of the darkest situations. Remember that time in Homecoming when Spidey decided to thwart the owner of the car for a carjacker?

Audiences love the Tom Holland rendition of Spider-Man, given his ability to drop them pop culture references; from Footloose, Doctor Who, etc. Though more often than not, Peter's humor acts as a defense mechanism against his insecurities as a superhero.

6 SHURI

"Don't scare me like that, colonizer". Boom! This single-handedly became an iconic line in Black Panther, delivered by the newest member in the MCU. The princess of Wakanda and the younger sister of the Black Panther, T'Challa, Shuri is a comical genius in every sense of the word.

Not only does she know when to drop the jokes, but she knows exactly what wit to employ. Shuri was such a hit in Black Panther, she almost stole her brother's thunder. "The corset is really uncomfortable. So can we wrap this up and go home?", said Shuri while taking the air out of an otherwise bland crowning ceremony.

5 HUMAN TORCH

Young and vibrant, Human Torch from Marvel's Fantastic Four, is a slaphappy, carefree spirit. Jhonny Storm aka Human Torch is one of Marvel's earliest funny characters. Earlier than She-Hulk. He debuted with the Fantastic Four #1 (1961) and aimed to provide readers relief with his comedy.

Human Torch has been nearly compared to Spidey on account of their young age and existence as comic-relief. The two debuted almost simultaneously and have flexed gags at one another. He's a pal to Spider-Man, who calls him the Human Gas-bag. The Human Torch retorts by calling him the proverbial "Fly on the wall".

4 THE GRANDMASTER

The Grandmaster from Thor: Ragnarok is one of the funniest villains from MCU. If you think the comic version of Grandmaster is funny, imagine the iteration delivered by Jeff Goldblum in Thor. A talent powerhouse like Jeff Goldblum has done full justice to the funny-evil man. "You are officially pardoned from life", followed by the classic Jeff Goldblum face.

Once known to possess one of the six Infinity Gems, the Grandmaster lost it to Thanos. Now his best bet is to pit two opposing teams against one another. The grandmaster will remorselessly and funnily orchestrates crimes on Planet Sakaar. His eccentric personality is a treat to the eyes and the heart.

3 MOJO

13 Mojo

Evil smile is what defines this malevolent dictator of Mojoverse. Mojo is much like The Grandmaster, he finds odd humor in pain. As long as Mojo has his fun, he doesn't mind hurting in the process.

Marc Guggenheim, the writer behind Mojo calls him egregious and most shameless television producers. Mojo uses Television to dominate the citizens of Mojoverse. He uses his Television to trouble the superheroes of the Earth. His TV programming consists of the most bizarre series, such as the "New Dastardly Scheme to Kill the X-Men." Although Mojo can do no major harm, Marc Guggenheim, who worked in TV himself, wrote Mojo as a satire of the American TV industry.

2 IRON MAN

Tony Stark is/ was the torchbearer of Marvel-Humor in MCU. Starting right with Iron Man (2008) to Endgame (2019), Tony Stark knew how to crack a joke or two, all this while saving the universe. Rebuttals, comebacks, wisecracks, Tony Stark did it all.

In one of the best retorts to Loki's, "I have an army", Tony goes, "we have a Hulk". Or remember the time in Spider-Man: Homecoming when Peter leaned in to hug Tony and he went, "We are not there yet".  Classic.

1 DEADPOOL

Always earns the top spot on the list for two reasons, a. He is the merc with the mouth and b. His improv by Ryan Reynolds. Both Deadpool 1 and 2 are a compilation of funny one-liners, one after the other. Just FYI, the comics are pretty much the same. Wade Wilson aka Deadpool was since the beginning, blessed with the ability to break the fourth wall. Over the years Deadpool has become more and more erratic, bringing obscenities to the table too.

The opening credits of Deadpool are an acknowledgment of his comic-book character. "Whose balls did I have to fondle to get my very own movie? I can't tell you, but it does rhyme with Polverine".

Mic drop.
