The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Fantastic Four reboot has a filming start date, according to director Matt Shakman.

While speaking with The Wrap, Shakman revealed that plans were in place to begin filming the Fantastic Four movie in early 2024. Although Marvel initially planned to release Fantastic Four in late 2024, it recently delayed it and several MCU projects. Instead of launching on Nov. 8, 2024, the Fantastic Four comes out on Feb. 14, 2025.

While discussing the film, Shakman explained why he chose to exit the director's seat for the upcoming Star Trek sequel in favor of returning to the MCU after his work on WandaVision. "I had a great time working on Star Trek for a little over a year, working closely with J.J. Abrams and everyone at Paramount, and I love that franchise, and I love that cast that J.J. put together, and it would have been an unbelievable pleasure to work with them on the fourth installment there," the director said. "But movies have different journeys and momentums and schedules are a little bit mercurial, and so when the Fantastic Four opportunity came up, it was just too hard to pass up, and to go back home to Marvel, a place that I worked on WandaVision at, with those people who are wonderful collaborators."

Who's in the Fantastic Four Reboot?

Speculation about the Fantastic Four cast has been rampant since the MCU announced a reboot film featuring Marvel's first family. 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced the often fan-cast John Krasinski as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, though the actor has since stated it was a one-off role. "There aren't any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan," Krasinski confirmed while promoting the spy thriller for Prime Video.

Since then, multiple actors have appeared in the rumor mill to take on the role in the upcoming film. Prominent actors in the reports include Adam Driver, Diego Luna and Ryan Gosling. However, more recently, new reports indicated that Marvel is currently in talks with actor Dev Patel to star as Reed Richards in its main continuity. While there are no casting confirmations at this time, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan and Killing Eve's Jodie Comer have been rumored to be in the running for Sue Storm/Invisible Woman. Meanwhile, Elvis star Austin Butler reportedly wants to play Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

The Fantastic Four reboot is set to hit theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
