Sometimes light and dark are just different shades of the same thing. A new promo video for Freeform’s upcoming Marvel series, Cloak and Dagger, sees the series' two leads living parallel lives that eventually intersect. It’s a fitting introduction, as the characters in the comics enjoy a partnership despite their powers being in opposition to each other at first glance.

The Cloak and Dagger series will follow the heroic adventures of Tyrone "Ty" Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), Cloak, and Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt), Dagger. Cloak’s Dark Form connects him to the Darkforce dimension, a realm of pure negative energy. Cloak can envelope people in his cape, causing them to experience their worst fears and, if left to writhe for too long, eventually go insane. Dagger can create knives made of light by will alone.

Created in 1982 by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan, Cloak and Dagger were first introduced in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64. In the comics, the duo were runaway teens who banded together to survive life on the streets. They were injected with a form of synthetic heroin by a criminal chemist but managed to escape. Their latent mutant powers began to manifest shortly thereafter, at which point they took on their heroic monikers and vowed to fight drug crime and protect children from harm.

Freeform also recently announced that the series will be getting its world premiere in the form of a watch party at the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The event will mark Freeform and Marvel Television’s first presence at the festival. The debut screening will be followed by a panel involving the show’s cast and creative team.

The panel will assemble the show’s leads -- Holt and Joseph -- alongside the series’ creative team, including executive producer and showrunner Joe Pokaski, director Gina Prince-Bythewood and Marvel's own head of television, Jeph Loeb. The group will discuss the process of creating Cloak and Dagger, a series that will tackle issues like class, loss, race and the formation of personal identities in the teenage years. The world premiere screening will be held on March 11.

Debuting on June 7 with a special two-hour event, Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger stars Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger, Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak, Andrea Roth as Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben as Adina Johnson and Miles Mussenden as Michael Johnson.
