At Square Enix Presents, players were given a glimpse into upcoming games and events. At the 2021 event, the company revealed its long-term plans for the future of troubled live-service title Marvel's Avengers.
New content came with the presentation, which had players hopping into the game right after the show, but Square Enix gave a glimpse at even more. With the next-gen version of the game, new DLC stories and even new characters coming later this year, Marvel's Avengers players have a reason to be excited.
Next-Gen Launch
Marvel's Avengers first launched back in August 2020. As a service title, the game has gone through some significant changes already, but now players can experience the game with their shiny new next-gen consoles. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners can play the game in 4K 60 FPS with a free upgrade within the same console family.
The next-gen upgrades also include higher resolution textures, improved destruction and faster loading times. Gamers that don't already own the game will have several options. Xbox players can buy the game once, and the Smart Delivery system will give the version best suited to your console. PlayStation 5 owners can purchase Marvel's Avengers for PlayStation 4 and upgrade for free right now. However, the next-gen upgrade may not be available for long. For the PS5 version, system save files will have to be migrated from past console versions via the game's main menu, while Xbox's Smart Delivery means the game can be fired up on either console and load the saved game.
Operation: Future Imperfect
Along with the next-gen launch, the development team at Crystal Dynamics dropped a brand new story with another character. In Future Imperfect, Hawkeye (Clint Barton), first seen at the end of Taking Aim, returns from the future after a significant catastrophe. His knowledge of the future is essential to the survival of the Avengers and the world.
Operation: Future Imperfect is free for everyone that owns Marvel's Avengers and unlocks Hawkeye (Clint Barton) as a playable character. However, the character's challenge card will cost in-game credits, making many of Clint's costumes, emotes, and finishing moves available. Players can buy credits for real money in packs with 500 -10,000 options available.
Campaign Reassembled Replayability.
Players looking to experience the game's story all over again will be happy to hear that the primary story campaign is now replayable. From the operations selection menu, gamers can reset their campaign progress. Resetting will revert Reassembled progress, but it will leave character progression intact, allowing players to have their story cake and eat it too.
Collectables, character XP and gear will remain unaffected by resetting. Operations can not be reset, and resetting Reassembled will not change either operation's progress.
2021 Roadmap
Crystal Dynamics is looking towards the future for their Avengers story. The game has plenty of content in the pipeline, and Square Enix Presents laid it all out for the fans to see during the presentation in a roadmap image.
Coming up in Spring are two events that will add plenty of lore and gameplay. A Tachyon Anomaly is coming and will let players use the same characters on their team. Soon, groups of multiple Iron Men and Hulks will be possible. Then the Red Room will take over the game's HARM room. Players will get new character outfits and a whole new theme for Avenger's training facilities.
Then in the summer and beyond, the Scientist Supreme will be returning for an all-new villain sector. Her latest weapon is causing severe problems to reality itself, and new warzones will appear in the upcoming Wasteland Patrol event.
Additionally, the Omega-Level Cloning lab is coming along with a level cap increase and multiplayer Megahives. Crystal Dynamics hasn't given a definite date for these content drops.
Black Panther: War for Wakanda
The next playable Avenger is finally revealed. Black Panther is on his way and with him is another villainous faction led by the evil Klaw. War for Wakanda will be the next expansion for Marvel's Avengers, increasing level caps, unlocking a new Avenger, and revealing another story.
Crystal Dynamics didn't reveal too much, but the teaser trailer gave everyone a close look at the jungle of Wakanda and a voice-over by Klaw offering to aid AIM. The most exciting part of the teaser is that War for Wakanda would be coming later this year.
With so many new things coming to Marvel's Avengers, players might have some hope for the service game. There hasn't been much to do in the game in recent months, and a lot of the game's development shuffling around for multiple reasons. Hopefully, players are interested in the game's updates, and the players already invested will start logging on more.
