Marvel's Avengers expanded on its skins with a new comics-inspired outfit for Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.

Posting a teaser on Twitter, Marvel's Avengers unveiled the new suit based on the 2020 comic Black Widow #5, which was written by Kelly Thompson with art by Elena Casagrande and Rafael De Latorre. The outfit features a black suit reminiscent of her traditional costume, featuring bright red highlights and a hood.

Black Widow #5 concluded an arc called "The Ties That Bind" that revealed Natasha had an artificially engineered genetic son, Stevie, with a man named James Grey. Several of Black Widow's enemies captured the pair and erased their memories, then created their son in a laboratory. For a period of three months, Natasha happily doted on the boy, nicknaming him her "little duckling." When she regained her memories, her enemies attacked Natasha's new family and both James and Stevie were caught in a resulting explosion. Bucky Barnes managed to save the pair and relocate them somewhere they could live safely under new identities.

Marvel's Avengers Keeps Adding Skins but Few Major Updates

Although Marvel's Avengers continues to release several skins for its roster of heroes, many fans have criticized Marvel's Avengers due to its recent updates. When the game launched in 2020, developer Crystal Dynamics asserted it planned to reveal a brand new hero every month to keep the story fresh. However, in the time since, it's only added four new heroes for all consoles -- Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, Black Panther and Jane Foster's Mighty Thor. PlayStation owners also received Spider-Man, owing to Sony's ownership over the character.

Part of this change is due to the fact that Marvel's Avengers altered or abandoned its original roadmap, though Crystal Dynamics remains reticent on what the new one might be. Despite this, the game does intend to add more content in the future, with Bucky Barnes confirmed as the next Avengers and She-Hulk heavily rumored for a future release.

Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix Europe, Marvel's Avengers is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows and Google Stadia.
