Marvel's Avengers has had a rocky start since its release last September. However, for all of its bugs and much-needed updates, the game still has many redeeming qualities. For example, each character features a well-thought-out gameplay style that is different from the others. Each new content update also adds to an overarching story that ties into the greater Marvel universe.

Its next DLC update will add the first Hawkeye, Clint Barton. He brings with him a new move set and a new villain called the Maestro. The update borrows many story elements from the Future Imperfect and Old Man Hawkeye series, where the Marvel universe is in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. While exciting, it feels as though the game is shying away from a much more interesting story looming over the horizon.

While new content only helps the game, in the long run, the constant delays have pushed back a storyline that began in the main game. The Kate Bishop DLC teased an invasion by the alien race known as the Kree. That threat is still on its way, but Clint's arc seems to put little focus on it. It wouldn't feel like much of an issue, but the fact that the developers rarely give updates on when new content is coming only hurts the main story.

The Kree were first introduced in the main story when Kamala took on a gigantic Kree sentry. This would later end up being the first of many that would be seen in Kate's DLC. With rumors of a potential Captain Marvel DLC coming, the wait between updates makes that seem much longer than it should be.

Thankfully, the developers still know how to create a great story with near-perfect representations of the characters. However, when there is a much bigger story being teased, and it's hard to appreciate what is being released as build-up. There are still mentions of the invasion in the game's trailer, but it remains to be seen how much will be shown.

The timeline of DLC releases has been questionable at best. The first was released almost three months after the game's initial launch date following a delay, which was largely caused by all the bugs that needed to be fixed first. Clint was supposed to release last month, but he will now be coming in March. There is no updated road map moving forward, nor is there a release date for the New Game+ version.

These delays make it difficult to get excited for a main story like the Kree invasion. While Clint's appearance looks fun and exciting, it may only serve as a side story to the larger threat, which is slowly losing steam. Kate's DLC was amazing and showed the potential that the game has. Only time will tell if this master plan will pay off, but that doesn't make the wait any less difficult or frustrating.
