Marvel fans are about to see more of Kate Bishop. Ahead of her MCU debut in Disney+'s Hawkeye, the archer was just added to Marvel's Avengers as a playable character. She's a welcome addition to the game's roster, despite its ongoing issues.

Kate's Marvel's Avengers appearance could very well be considered her proper video game debut, as it's the first time she's shown up outside of puzzle games or Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. This is what makes it all the more impressive that Marvel's Avengers is where Kate gets a well deserved and long overdue promotion: she's a full-fledged Avenger now.

In the early stages of her story DLC, Taking Aim, Kate is officially invited to join The Avengers. Captain America himself extends the offer, acknowledging that he made a mistake in not making it official earlier. In-game, Kate's had some friction after the team disappeared following A-Day, leaving Kate and her mentor, Clint Barton, alone in their investigation of AIM.

In comics, Kate's been considered a Hawkeye ever since her debut in Young Avengersbut she's never been a member of the main Avengers roster despite proving herself on multiple occasions. Kate was given the Hawkeye title near the conclusion of Young Avengers' initial run, when Captain America, impressed by Bishop standing up to him when he told the Young Avengers to disband, gave her the then-deceased Barton's bow and arrow as a gift. It came with a note addressed to the new Hawkeye because, as Jessica Jones put it, "the only person who ever stood up to Captain America the way you did was Hawkeye."

The Young Avengers did eventually gain the approval of the adult team. They've fought alongside the rest of the Avengers in major events like the Skrull's Secret Invasion and the Siege of Asgard, in addition to their battles against villains like Kang and Doctor Doom. Outside of the Young Avengers, Kate may be the most successful of her teammates. She eventually wound up the leader of the latest incarnation of the West Coast Avengers, which faced threats like a sexy version of Marvel's Avengers big bad, M.O.D.O.K.

The group's time together was short but allowed Bishop to prove herself. If nothing else, managing volatile personalities like Kid Omega and Gwenpool and surviving the experience is an impressive achievement on anyone's resume.

Bishop's had a life outside of Avengers teams and Barton, too. After spending time in Los Angeles with Pizza Dog, she moved there full time and set up shop as a private investigator. Her time as a solo act saw her develop a rivalry with Iron Man villain and former lover Madame Masque. After their first encounter, which involved Bishop subduing and impersonating the villain, they butted heads during her time on the West Coast. Their rivalry became personal when Bishop learned that her father was one of Masque's clients, who would later put a hit on his daughter and Barton.

During Bishop's P.I. days, Masque took their rivalry to another level by trying to steal Bishop's identity, using a clone body to impersonate Bishop in hopes of developing superpowers. They had a climactic fight atop the Hollywood sign, which Bishop won.

Marvel's Avengers hasn't earned a lot of goodwill so far, but its developers have at least recognized Kate Bishop's worthiness of being an Avenger, something that should have already happened in the comics. It's a well overdue nod to Kate's popularity as a character and her accomplishments in-universe and a move that a future creative team definitely needs to make happen.
