UPDATE 9/19/2014 4:15 PM PT: Along with the season two poster, Marvel has also released a two-and-a-half minute opening clip from next week's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season premiere, showcasing new addition Lucy Lawless in action as Isabelle Hartley and more:

As it prepares for a second year on air, Marvel Studios' first TV tie-in has been ramping up with a run of promotional teases that give "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." a darker, more dangerous flair. That's evidenced in the latest release, a new Season 2 poster debuted via Variety:

With its second season premiere -- titled "Shadows" -- debuting on September 23 on ABC, the series starts a post-Hydra story that brings in new characters including Lucy Lawless' Izzy Hartley, Brian Patrick Wade as Absorbing Man Crusher Creel and Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse, AKA Mockingbird, amongst others.

Speaking on the new changes for year two, producer Maurissa Tancharoen, who serves as showrunner along with Jed Whedon, told CBR, "Because S.H.I.E.L..D. has crumbled, because we're left with limited resources, Coulson may have to reach outside of the organization -- and that may entail some uneasy alliances. Even though we're bringing people into the fold who are there to help us, we might not necessarily see eye to eye all the time. So there will be lots of conflicts."
