WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Marvel Zombies: Resurrection #1 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Leonard Kirk, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC's Travis Lanham, on sale now.

In terms of superpowers, Spider-Man has one of the best combinations of abilities within the Marvel Universe. His wall-crawling works well with his overall agility and speed, his enhanced strength and durability make him inherently tough enough to survive his adventures, and his Spider-Sense gives him constant warnings to keep him on his toes.

But that last power might actually become more of a curse than a boon in the world of Marvel Zombies: Resurrection. The Spider-Man of this universe may be dealing with a serious threat to his own well-being, with the constant danger he's in setting off his Spider-Sense so much that it could kill him.

There are only a handful of confirmed survivors of this version of the Marvel Zombies plague, with the issue focusing on a group consisting of Spider-Man, Forge, Ex-Thunderbolt Moonstone, Franklin and Valeria Richards, their pet Sentinal Nana and Captain Marvel's pet Chewie. Forge secretly leads the group towards the Xavier Institute, which incurs Peter's anger for the risk it puts them in. But on top of wanting to find supplies and resources for his own inventions, Forge reveals part of the reason they're going to the Mansion is so Forge can find something to help Spider-Man.

It turns out that due to the circumstances happening around them, Spider-Man's natural danger alarm -- his Spider-Sense -- has been going off constantly. Forge hypothesizes that if he doesn't find something to alleviate that pain, the headaches will get worse and eventually kill him. This is a surprisingly dark way for Spider-Man to go, and one that does make a certain amount of sense. The Spider-Sense is perhaps Spider-Man's greatest power. Coupled with his incredible agility and reflexes, the warning sense is able to clue in the hero to threats and danger seconds before they occur, giving him the ability to dodge almost any attack. But the Spider-Sense has also been utilized as a weakness sometimes as well.

Marvel Zombies Resurrection Spider-Man 5

Over the years, Spider-Man has gone through so many dangerous situations that the sheer severity of his Spider-Sense going off has left him in extreme pain. It's often been one of the ways that clever members of Spider-Man's rogue's gallery have overwhelmed and defeated him in the past. It's more than feasible that his Spider-Sense constantly buzzing from the severity of the danger in a zombie apocalypse would eventually wear out Spider-Man's nervous system.

It could be the ultimate distraction at the worst moment, one that leaves him open to make a fatal mistake or someone else infected or killed. As Forge suggests, it could even just outright kill him at some point. In a world where the alternative seems to be getting killed and consumed or corrupted by his former allies, suddenly collapsing from the world's worst migraine might seem like a preferable demise. But with the Richards children in his care, Spider-Man doesn't have the time to let his powers bring him down.

With the expedition into the Xavier Institute ultimately doing nothing to resolve their problems and only setting the survivors up for much more trouble as they prepare to encounter the source of the zombie hive mind directly, Spider-Man might need to hold on against his own powers if he wants to save more lives.
