The Secret Empire is here - but who will survive Steve Rogers' reign of terror?

The culmination of writer Nick Spencer's Captain America epic arrives in April. Not only will the saga unfold over the course of its nine-issue miniseries, "Secret Empire" will inspire a number of one-shots and more than a handful of tie-ins (nine in May alone) across the Marvel Universe. When the heroes of the world learn that Steve Rogers has been a Hydra agent all along, allegiances are chattered, new partnerships are formed, and judging by the cover and solicitation copy for "U.S.Avengers" #6, at least one longtime Marvel hero may die.

That's just in Captain America's specific corner of the Marvel Universe; as we spread out across the rest of Marvel Comics' May releases, we find the following items of note:

Dennis Hopeless is taking over writing duties on "Doctor Strange," replacing Jason Aaron as of #21; artist Niko Henrichon will take over from Chris Bachalo. The issue is also a "Secret Empire" tie-in.
The description for "Ultimates 2" #7 indicates that the big finale of last week's issue might be undone, with Galactus still being referred to as the Lifebringer.

In the wake of "Inhumans vs X-Men," the Inhuman-led "Secret Warriors" debuts. Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur, Quake, Karnak and Inferno come together as an unlikely team with the goal of dismantling Steve Rogers' Secret Empire and freeing the Inhumans that have been captured and imprisoned by S.H.I.E.L.D..
The Guardians of the Galaxy ride high all month with no less than three new ongoing series -- one starring the entire team (released twice-monthly), one featuring Rocket's solo adventures, and one following the adventures of baby Groot when he finds himself separated from his team after falling into a wormhole. Plus, the new Guardians of the Galaxy miniseries from Jim Starlin and Alan Davis arrives, with all five issues releasing over the course of the month.
An Avenger is resurrected, as Wonder Man makes his return in the pages of "Uncanny Avengers" #23.
ResurrXion means we have a handful of new X-titles launching in April. "Jean Grey" is a solo title for the once and future Phoenix, "Generation X" stars the latest teen team of mutants learning about life and survival at the Xavier Institute, and "Cable" finds the geriatric mutant from the future once more tearing a path through the time stream in order to save it.
Meanwhile, "X-Men Blue" features Wolverine - but which one? It's not Laura Kinney, as the cover clearly delays three claws, and Old Man Logan shouldn't cause the reaction we see on the teen team's faces. Curiouser and curiouser...
Marvel translates a manga based on its heroes from Japanese to English with "Zombies Assemble," creator Yusaka Komiyama's take on the popular "Marvel Zombies" franchise. Translated by Jim Zub, the series arrives as a two-part miniseries.
Doctor Doom joins the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in "Avengers" #7, and does battle with the Ultimate Universe's Reed Richards in his own series.
"Venom" turns 150, when the current series adds up all the solo Venom comics throughout the decades to celebrate the antihero's milestone. As part of the celebration, the symbiote's original host Eddie Brick is back, reuniting with his alien super suit.

"Spider-Gwen" #20 introduces the Wolverine of Earth-65. SNIKT.
In all, Marvel has 10 new ongoing series debuting in May, including "Black Bolt," "Luke Cage," "Secret Empire," "Secret Warriors," "All-New Guardians of the Galaxy," "Rocket," "I Am Groot," "Jean Grey," "Generation X," and "Cable."
Charles Soule and Ron Garney finally answer the question of just how Daredevil managed to put his identity as MAtt Murdock back in the bag. The solicitation text also teases "a brand-new chapter for Matt, and a fight truly unlike any heâ€™s faced before."
The Star Wars corner of the Marvel Universe grows when "The Screaming Citadel" #1 arrives from Kieron Gillen and Marco Chcchetto.Doctor Aphra teams with Luke Skywalker for the first time in the in-continuity crossover that kicks off in the one-shot before spilling into "Star Wars" and "Star Wars: Doctor Aphra."
