With a new "Destiny of X" trailer guiding the way, Marvel is about to bring the X-Men into a new era. Some mutants may fare better than others.
The new "Destiny of X" trailer, which Marvel Entertainment dropped on YouTube last week, shows Irene Adler, also known as Destiny, slowly but surely taking control of Krakoa, the mutant-run island located in the Pacific Ocean. The footage opens with Irene whispering something to Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister, on a park bench back in 1918. Whatever she says can't be good, as Mister Sinister falls on the ground just seconds later.
From there, the trailer tells us that the mutants living on Krakoa will finally have a chance to choose their own path -- or "their own destiny," if you will -- which suggests that Irene Adler's re-emergence will be taken well by some and not by others. It's not just going to play into a small handful of X-Men storylines, either. Judging by all the familiar faces that show up in the preview -- Rogue, Colossus, Magneto, Magik, etc. -- anyone and everyone will have a part to play in "Destiny of X."
While previously dying in 1980's Uncanny X-Men #255, Destiny was revived in Inferno #1 before she then made a quick rise to power over the Quiet Council. The character is often closely tied with Mystique, who Destiny fought with on the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. In Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Bufagni's X-Men #6, it was revealed that the two of them are married. Since Adler's resurrection, Destiny and Mystique then removed Moira MacTaggert from Krakoa, leaving them as two of the most powerful and dangerous entities on the island.
Following "Reign of X," "Destiny of X" will be the next exciting chapter for the X-Men that's said to rise out of the ashes of Inferno and the time-traveling mission in X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths Of Wolverine. Highlighting the second age of Krakoa, "Destiny of X" will dive into multiple X-Men series throughout the course of its run, including Immortal X-Men #1, Marauders #1, X-Men Red #1, X-Force #27, Knights of X #1, X-Men #10, Legion of X #1, New Mutants #25 and Wolverine #20.
