The X-Men are considered outsiders, and much of the world fears them. However, at the same time, they are a big family and have each other's backs most of the time. Like all families, they fight each other on occasion, but when the world comes at them, there is no one they trust more by their side than fellow members.

With that said, the personalities of the X-Men vary wildly, from the most arrogant and conceited characters to the joyful and happy heroes that can brighten up a dark room, even without the powers of Dazzler. Here is a look at the 10 top members of the X-Men, ranked by personality.

10 CYCLOPS

Cyclops developed a reputation over the years as a cult leader, a messiah for young mutants who feel like outcasts to look up to. However, when it comes to a person, he is a real jerk. He is conceited, feels that he is always right, talks down to those around him, and many times, he goes against the greater good to achieve his own goals. His teammates can trust him when the chips are down, but not when he has his own goals.

9 WOLVERINE

Wolverine is the complete opposite of Cyclops. While Cyclops will often do his own thing despite what is best for the X-Men at that moment, Wolverine will almost always put the team first and has no problem taking a bullet to save one of his teammates. However, at the same time, he is someone who likes almost no one. He has a small core of trusted allies, and everyone else better stay out of his way.

8 ROGUE

X-Men Anatomy Rogue

Rogue wasn't always an outsider who trusted no one and refused to let herself get close to anyone. However, when her powers manifested themselves as a young girl, and she almost killed a boy she liked, she changed. Raised by Mystique and Destiny, she has trust issues that make it hard for her to get along with others. As someone whose touch could kill, Rogue knows she is better off alone, even when she knows she needs someone.

7 JEAN GREY

Planet X Jean Grey using her powers in Marvel Comics

Jean Grey was, at one time, the most personable member of the X-Men. However, she has died more than almost any character in Marvel Comics, and that has its effect. She has also had the misfortune of falling in love with Cyclops, and seeing him hurt her more than once.

Despite that, Jean is a great teacher and has a genuinely caring and loyal personality to her students and teammates. With that said, there is also the fact that she is one step away from going Dark Phoenix on the world, and that is where things go completely off the rails.

6 NIGHTCRAWLER

Nightcrawler is an enigma. He is someone who is a devoutly religious man who looks like a demon. He is someone who wants to be a loyal and beloved teammate who was treated like a freak his entire life. However, with the X-Men, this superhero found a family, and when he is with them, he is someone who comes across as loyal and friendly and will lay his life on the line to save anyone he calls a friend.

5 PROFESSOR X

Professor X is not who he seems to others. Most people see Charles Xavier as someone who wants to unite the mutant and human race in an attempt to bring peace to the world. On the other end of things, he is a manipulative man who has no problem sending children out to battle in wars that he knows that they won't always survive. With that said, he treated his students with care, and they repay him with loyalty to a fault.

4 STORM

Cyclops served as an X-Men leader through arrogance and self-assured cockiness. He got the job done and did it well for many years, even though it made some people hate him through and through. Storm took his place as leader of the X-Men and was a very different leader.

Yes, Storm had her low points, mostly when she lost her powers and needed to find herself again. That was a tough time where she built up a rough edge. With that said, she is someone who led the team with care and consideration, and her teams remained loyal due to her personality and trust in her decisions.

3 BEAST

Unless your name is Cyclops, Beast is probably the nicest and most loyal member of the original X-Men. He is there to care for and try to save anyone he can and has no problem doing anything, morally right or not, to help anyone in need. Much like Nightcrawler, Beast is someone who looks scary but is one of the nicest guys in the room. He had moments where he stepped over boundaries, but it was almost always from the goodness in his heart.

2 COLOSSUS

Colossus was the one member of the X-Men that seemed to respect everyone around him. While some members of the team shunned people and remained secluded based on a lifetime of ridicule and fear, Colossus seemed to fear little. As with all members of the group, he had moments of lapse, mostly when someone like his sister Magik was in danger, but Colossus remains probably the nicest guy you will meet in the X-Men.

1 KITTY PRYDE

Kitty Pryde phasing through a brick wall

The best personality of any member of the X-Men is easily Kitty Pryde. She was the youngest member of the team when she joined up and took on Storm as a mentor and developed a massive crush on Colossus. She was best known in her early years for her quirky costumes as she wanted to be a great hero in a lineup of morose mutants. As an adult, she became a teacher, possibly the best at the institute. Kitty remains the brightest example of the goodness of the X-Men.
