One is the last son of the doomed planet Krypton, while the other is the best there is at what he does…or so he says. Superman and Wolverine have been in all sorts of tussles over the years, but never against one another, due to living in separate comic book universes owned by different companies.

While Clark’s and Logan’s worlds have met in crossovers like DC vs. Marvel and JLA/Avengers, the characters haven’t really interacted during those events, much less thrown down. Leading, naturally, to plenty of fan speculation regarding who would win. Would it be the figurative Man of Steel? Or the literal Man of Adamantium?

10 Wolverine: Kills When Necessary

For all the things Superman can do, there’s a lot of things he won’t do. Throughout most (albeit not all) of his history, Clark has been extremely averse to using lethal force, believing there’s usually a better way.

Wolverine is less optimistic, often being the first to advocate lethal force to stop a threat. Fighting someone vastly above his strength level might qualify for him, meaning he may not hesitate to sink his claws into Superman’s heart or skull. Logan might avoid such measures upon seeing Clark’s goodness, however, should Superman be mind-controlled or Wolverine in a berserker rage, there would be no guarantee.

9 Superman: Better Super-Senses

All of Wolverine’s senses are beyond a normal human’s. He can pick up nearby sounds that are almost imperceptible, and sees better and farther than most, even in the dark. Most famous, however, is his sense of smell, which he can use to detect hidden enemies and track them down.

Yet even Logan’s strongest senses are dwarfed by Superman’s. Clark can see things from much farther distances in various wavelengths, as well as on a microscopic level; he can also see right through objects. Furthermore, Superman can hear things from far away on multiple frequencies and can pick out specific sounds in extremely noisy environments.

8 Wolverine: Stronger Healing Factor

Even when his claws haven’t been laced with adamantium, Logan has always had the distinct advantage of being able to completely heal from just about anything thrown at him, no matter how severe. He also heals faster than most people, often recovering from life-threatening wounds within minutes or even less time. Furthermore, his healing factor works even faster on extreme injuries, e.g. if large layers of flesh and muscle are lost.

For all the damage Superman can do to him, there’s always a chance Logan will get better. If he is quiet enough, Logan could even be quick enough to recover to catch Clark off-guard.

7 Superman: Has Super-Speed

Superman Flash Speed Demons

“Faster than a speeding bullet” is no exaggeration. When it comes to speed, Superman is among the fastest people in the DC Universe, even rivaling the Flash. Sure, Wolverine can slice a speeding bullet in mid-air, but he’s nowhere near as fast as the Man of Tomorrow.

Superman could subdue or land multiple hits on Logan before the fast-healing mutant even knew what hit him, or even use his speed to suck the air out of Wolverine’s lungs. By the time Logan’s healing factor starts kicking in, Superman could have already attacked several more times, slowing down Wolverine’s recovery substantially.

6 Wolverine: Is Highly Trained

Superman has more fighting ability than most people credit him for. He has learned fighting techniques from both Batman and Wonder Woman, boxing, and at least in some continuities, wrestling and Kryptonian martial arts styles, like Klurkor and the Horu-Kanu.

Wolverine, however, has Superman beat. Logan knows several combat styles, and it has even been said that he has learned nearly every Earth-based fighting discipline. He is also greatly proficient in firearms, explosives, and other weapons. Like Batman, Wolverine could set up cunning traps in advance to subdue Superman. Even without prep time, Logan still knows how to hit Clark and make it hurt.

5 Superman: Has Super-Strength & Invulnerability

Wolverine does get somewhat of a strength boost from having an adamantium skeleton, but not to the point where he can change the course of mighty rivers or even lift cars with one hand. Furthermore, while Logan heals from injury extraordinarily quickly, his skin can be bruised and pierced as easily as a normal human’s.

Any attack from Superman would, therefore, cause enormous physical damage to Logan if Kal-El weren’t holding back. That is also assuming the Man of Steel isn't at his Silver Age strength levels that would allow him to sneeze solar systems into oblivion.

4 Wolverine: Unbreakable Skeleton & Claws

For all the damage Superman can do to Logan, there’s not much Clark can do to Wolverine’s indestructible skeleton.

On top of that, Logan’s claws can cut through nearly anything, including the skin of beings like the Hulk. Piercing Superman’s flesh would be difficult but far from impossible for Wolverine, making the Man of Tomorrow vulnerable to every slash and stab attack Logan lands on him. To be fair, Superman does heal faster and better than humans do, but not at Wolverine’s level, meaning repeated claw attacks could prove devastating.

3 Superman: Can Attack From Afar

While Logan is an expert at sneaking up on people undetected, he still needs to get up close to attack with his claws. Superman, conversely, has numerous ranged powers, such as heat vision and Freeze Breath. He could sear Logan’s flesh off with a look or completely stop him in his tracks.

Superman could also knock Wolverine around with air currents, throw or drop things on him, or slam two heavy objects against him at once. Furthermore, Kal-El could combine his heat vision with telescopic and X-Ray vision to attack Logan’s innards through the spaces between his bones. Superman could even stop Wolverine’s claws from coming close by holding Logan’s arms in place.

2 Wolverine: Has Fought People At Superman’s Strength Level & Won…Somehow

Logan is no stranger to fighting stronger opponents, such as the Hulk. Victory isn’t always assured for Wolverine in these instances; in fact, he actually lost pitifully to a Marvel version of Superman, the Sentry, during the Superhuman Civil War.

Enter Lobo. Though not canon and highly contested among fans, Wolverine has actually defeated the Main Man, whose strength rivals Superman and who heals better than Logan. How it happened wasn’t shown, as the two fought behind a bar, but Wolverine clearly walked away as the victor. An online poll determined the winner, rather than logic, proving that in some instances, Wolverine’s popularity is his greatest weapon.

1 Winner: Superman (Can Beat Logan In Ways He Can’t Heal From)

Setting aside Kal-El’s moral boundaries, there are many ways Superman could defeat Wolverine permanently. He could drop Logan in a volcano (provided Wolverine were subdued or unconscious for the trip) or throw him in from afar. Similarly, Superman could trap Wolverine in an adamantium tank full of water, or drag Logan either to the ocean depths or into space.

However, Superman can also beat Wolverine without even hurting him, such as building an adamantium cage around Logan at super-speed. Overall, Clark’s chances of winning are much larger than Logan's, as the Man of Steel has so many more paths of victory to choose from.
