John Ridley will head to the Marvel Universe for Wolverine: Black, White & Blood.

Ridley will contribute a story to Wolverine: Black, White & Blood #3, with Jorge Fornés on art duties. The story sees Wolverine traveling to Japan, where he engages in a blood-soaked duel with his old foe Silver Samurai.

"I can think of no better way to kick off my writing relationship with Marvel Comics than by contributing to a truly fantastic anthology series centered around Wolverine," Ridley said in a statement. "Equally exciting is having the story illustrated by Jorge Fornés. I look forward to writing more stories set in the Marvel Universe, and with their roster of iconic characters."

Ridley is best known for his film work, including the Academy Award-winning 12 Years A Slave. He's no stranger to comic books or superheroes, though, having created The American Way for DC's Wildstorm imprint. His other upcoming comic work includes The Other History of the DC Universe for DC's Black Label and The Next Batman for DC Future State, which sees Luke Fox donning the mantle of the Dark Knight.

Wolverine: Black, White & Blood will feature several all-star writers and artists teaming up to provide tales from Logan's past. In addition to Ridley, other writers on the project include veteran X-Men scribe Chris Claremont and Spider-Man: Miles Morales writer Saladin Ahmed.

Wolverine: Black White & Blood #1, by Gerry Duggan, Declan Shalvey, Matthew Rosenberg, Adam Kubert, Joshua Cassara and more, goes on sale Nov. 4 from Marvel.
