Marvel Studios has been pretty quiet about its plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the release of Avengers 4 in 2019. However, a number of high-profile contracts are set to end with that film, meaning the studio will need to introduce new characters to replace popular existing ones -- and Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore, for one, is excited about the studio's Phase Four characters.
"I think it's an opportunity for us to bid a fond farewell to characters that we've come to know for a while," Moore told Screen Rant, "but to also then introduce characters who are going to feel completely new and hopefully surprising to both our core fans and fans of our movies who aren't as well-versed in publishing."
"There are great ideas out there that we've talked about internally that I think and I hope will be surprising and refreshing to audiences while we still continue to explore characters we've come to love," he continued. "The new ones always feel really exciting because they can be anything. We're at the point now where we're blue-skying, what are the best stories to tell, and in that blue sky there are ideas that I think all of us get really excited to share with people."
At this stage, it's not clear exactly who the studio plans on introducing to the MCU. However, there are likely to be a lot of new characters, as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed the studio has another 20 movies planned beyond Phase Three. Feige did recently indicate that the studio is working on bringing Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, into the MCU. He's also confirmed that an Eternals film is in early development.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. The film is in theaters now.
