Several new toys from Marvel Studios and Disney+'s What If...? have been unveiled, including some that confirm the haunting nature of Spider-Man's role in the animated series.

According to merchandise from both LEGO and Hasbro, the Spider-Man fans see in What If...? will be "Zombie Hunter Spidey." His role will presumably be to do battle with Zombie Captain America, who's also included among the products.

The original Marvel Zombies was a five-issue limited series by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips that ran from December 2005-April 2006. Spinning out of Ultimate Fantastic Four and set in an alternate universe (Earth-2149), the series saw the various heroes and villains transformed into flesh-eating zombies thanks to a virus from another dimension. It went on to spawn several sequels (including a crossover with Dynamite Entertainment's Army of Darkness) and tie-ins, and it was most recently resurrected in 2020 with Marvel Zombies: Resurrection.

As for What If...?, the show was expected to take cues from the comic books of the same name by reimagining specific events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While that's largely the case, Loki's Tom Hiddleston also suggested "it sets up a whole bunch of stuff in the MCU," meaning it may be more than just an out-of-continuity anthology series.

What If...? premieres Aug. 11 on Disney+.
