Disney+ released an official poster for Marvel's What If...?, revealing its premiere date.

Per the poster and full-length What If...? trailer, Marvel's animated series will begin streaming August 11. It will be the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show to premiere on Disney's streaming service since the beginning of 2021, following on the heels of the live-action series WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. Two more shows, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye, are slated to follow in the fall.

What If Season 1 Poster

Based on the Marvel Comics anthology, What If...? explores what might've happened if major moments in the MCU had played out differently. Jeffrey Wright's Uatu/The Watcher serves as the show's narrator, guiding audiences through "a multiverse of infinite possibilities," as the series' official synopsis puts it. "Here, in the first season, [Uatu] starts off as an observer, but he gradually becomes more compelled by what he watches," teased Wright, talking about the show in a previous interview.

Among the alternate timelines teased in the poster are one where Peggy Carter takes the Super Soldier Serum -- transforming her into Captain Carter -- and another one where T'Challa, not Peter Jason Quill, adopts the Star-Lord mantle after being picked up by the Ravagers. Other storylines hinted at here include ones where Spider-Man uses the Cloak of Levitation, Gamora hunts one of the Avengers and a number of Earth's Mightiest Heroes (Hawkeye and Captain America among them) are turned into zombies.

The What If...? trailer further teases a timeline where Erik "Killmonger" Stevens is a hero who rescued Tony Stark from the Afghanistan desert ambush depicted in 2008's Iron Man. A toy leak for the series further revealed a story (possibly the same one) where Killmonger is crowned King of Wakanda and plays a key role in defeating Ultron. Killmonger actor Michael B. Jordan is one of the many MCU stars reportedly reprising their Marvel characters for the show. That list also includes the late Chadwick Boseman, who recorded voice work as T'Challa prior to his death in Aug. 2020.

Created by A.C. Bradley and directed by Bryan Andrews, What If...? stars Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher, Hayley Atwell as Captain Peggy Carter, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine and Taika Waititi as Korg. The series premieres on Aug. 11 on Disney+.
