One of Marvel's old horror originals, Werewolf by Night, is making a comeback in a new miniseries by Benjamin Jackendoff, Black Eyed Peas' Taboo and Scot Eaton. However, as shown in a new preview, the protagonist of the title is not the original Werewolf by Night Jack Russell but a new version trying to be a hero while keeping his own lycanthropic curse in check.

Taking place on a Native American reservation in Arizona, Jake, aka Red Wolf, will be called upon to "protect his people" from a malevolent werewolf. However, Jake will also have to deal with a "family curse" and "an unholy experiment."

Scot Eaton's preview art and Mike McKone's cover art are below:

"I always liked storytelling from a native perspective," Taboo said when the miniseries was announced. "Although I was born in the city of Los Angeles, recently I've been really connected to the Indian country or to native communities to be able to be a service and help native youth, inspire them, especially when it comes to health and wellness, and arts and music."

It's unknown if the Werewolf by Night miniseries will see the return of Jack Russell. However, the original Werewolf by Night recently appeared in the 2020 Ravencroft miniseries and is rumored to make an appearance in Disney+'s Moon Knight series.

Created by Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas and Mike Ploog, Jack Russell/Werewolf by Night first appeared in 1972's Marvel Spotlight #2. Unlike other werewolves from the classic lore, Russell can transform whenever he chooses, hence the name Werewolf by Night. However, the transformation becomes involuntary for him at night under the full moon.

Werewolf by Night #1, by Benjamin Jackendoff, Taboo and Scot Eaton, goes on sale April 22 from Marvel Comics.
