The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a lot of heavy hitters in its lineup -- both on the heroes side as well as that of the villains. Through the movies, there have been some highly overpowered villains that the heroes have had to overcome, with Thanos possibly topping the list in Avengers: Infinity War. With a supervillain like Thanos as well as a celestial living planet like Ego and a God in Surtur, one wonders if there is anything that the heroes of Earth and the cosmos can't defeat. However, when it comes to the heroes -- most are human or at least have human-attributes, which makes fighting someone with the Infinity Gauntlet seem so overwhelming for the heroes. With such impossible odds, it seems that this is the limit for the heroes of the MCU when it comes to challenges.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Black Panther proved that the best villains are not the overpowered ones but the more personal ones. With Killmonger being a normal man who gains some superhuman powers, he ended up giving T'Challa all he could handle, making it look like scaling it back some might be the best bet for Marvel in the movies. With that said, there is always the thought to go bigger and there are plenty of Marvel villains way too powerful for the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to fight without another major crossover team-up in the future.

20 KORVAC

korvac-saga-display

Korvac was an interesting character, introduced in the pages of The Defenders as a one-time villain from the future. However, he returned as a nemesis for the Avengers and became infamous for the aptly named Korvac Saga. While introduced as a villain, he was a lot more complex than that and was one of the most powerful characters The Avengers ever faced in the comics.

When it comes to powers, Korvac can manipulate time, space, energy, matter and astrally project his being. His cosmic abilities allow Korvac to achieve almost any effect and he chose the present day Marvel Universe to turn into a Utopia. He actually slew all The Avengers before regretting it, resurrecting them, and finally taking his own life to end it -- since no one else could defeat him.

19 THE BEYONDER

Beyonder

The first time The Beyonder appeared in Marvel Comics it was for the event comic book limited series Secret Wars. He abducted many heroes and villains from Earth and sent them to a world he created, forcing them to battle one another. He came back later in Secret Wars II, which kind of ruined the character somewhat thanks to his Miami Vice clothing style and whining.

However, a member of the ancient Beyonders alien race, The Beyonder is vastly overpowered. His most significant power is manipulating reality and he is even more powerful than the Living Tribunal and Eternity, with no weaknesses at all outside of his own fragile mentality, which is the only thing that led to his downfall when battling every hero on Earth on more than one occasion.

18 GALACTUS

To understand how hard it is to do Galactus right in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, look at the last two Fantastic Four movies. In Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The main nemesis for much of the movie was the Silver Surfer and then the film made Galactus into a giant cloud that had to be stopped from reaching the Earth.

In the 2015 Fantastic Four movie, the original script wanted Galactus to be in the Negative Zone, which ended up renamed Planet Zero. While Fox wanted him to be a possible tease for future movies, it deleted any mention of Galactus. This cosmic being eats planets to survive and is practically unbeatable, only stopped by heroes convincing him to spare their world usually with a unique bargain.

17 TYRANT

Galactus is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe and Tyrant is a being that he created as a living machine. While Galactus has a hunger for planets and destroys them to survive, Tyrant is another story.  Galactus was out for his own survival and did what he needed to survive, but Tyrant just liked to destroy things and had a thirst for tyranny... hence the name, we guess.

How strong is Tyrant? When Galactus tried to stop him, their battles destroyed entire galaxies. While Tyrant lost some of his power after that battle, he still has massive amounts of cosmic abilities and uses them simply for destructive purposes. He is also immortal and would need a nemesis as powerful as someone like Galactus to match those levels to even slow him down.

16 DORMAMMU

Doctor-Strange-vs-Dormammu

Yes, Dormammu has been in an MCU movie, but he was in no way the main villain in Doctor Strange. While he was the final boss battle for Doctor Strange, that confrontation showed there was no way that Strange could ever beat Dormammu and he needed to just wait it out until the demon was tired of replaying the same scenes over and over again.

When it comes to someone like Doctor Strange, a character like Kaecilius -- who was the real enemy that Strange had to defeat in the movie -- is a better villain for a Marvel movie. On another level, Baron Mordo is the villain that would make for a more well-rounded nemesis than Dormammu, who is way too powerful to make an interesting enemy.

15 MANGOG

Mangog is a villain from the pages of Thor comics. Thor: Ragnarok proved that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not scared to bring overpowered characters into their movies, as Hela and Surtur are at the upper level of the Marvel Universe power structure. Of course, not even Hulk, Thor and Valkyrie could beat Hela and it took the giant Surtur to finally stop the daughter of Odin before that God destroyed Asgard.

As for Mangog, one thing that has been proven in Marvel Comics is that he cannot be defeated and can only be captured and imprisoned -- although he doesn't remain gone for long. According to Thor #157, Mangog has the power of a "billion billion beings" and can manipulate magic as well. No one in the MCU would stand a chance against this indestructible being that draws strength from hate.

14 ONSLAUGHT

X-Men '90s Villain Onslaught

With the X-Men now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the Disney purchase of Fox, it is time for the MCU to decide which heroes and villains it wants to use from the universe in future movies. With names like Magneto, The Hellfire Club, Sabretooth and more waiting in the wings, one X-Men villain that is way too powerful for the MCU world of movies is Onslaught.

Onslaught was the villain created when Professor X went into the mind of Magneto to shut it down and ended up combining the two into an unstoppable and indestructible villain. Not only was this an overpowered villain but he was so strong that no one could beat him! It took both the Fantastic Four and Avengers sacrificing themselves to stop Onslaught in an event that rebooted the Marvel Universe.

13 CHAMPION OF THE UNIVERSE

20 Marvel Villains Way Too Powerful For The MCU

One of the lesser-known overpowered supervillains in the Marvel Universe is a character known as the Champion of the Universe. While he is not so much a villain as he is an arrogant and impetuous character, he is still someone that Marvel has shown is too strong for its heroes to defeat without forms of trickery.

He is one of the Elders of the Universe, beings that were hinted at in Guardians of the Galaxy movies. They exist but there is no way that they can be used as true villains for MCU characters to battle in the movies. The Champion's power comes from energy that was left over from the Big Bang and he is actually the most powerful member of the Elders. In the comics, he is one of the few beings to withstand the power of Thanos.

12 HYPERION

King Hyperion Kev Walker

Hyperion has fought The Avengers before outside of the comic books when they battled in the animated series Avengers Assemble. In that show, Hyperion proved to be almost too powerful for The Avengers to beat but they were able to take him down -- at least in the cartoon. However, the comic book character might end up being too strong for the MCU.

Hyperion is from an alternate Earth where he went insane and laid down his own form of martial law before destroying the entire planet in the process. Hyperion is the Marvel Comics version of Superman, but as if the Man of Steel was an insane warlord. He is actually more powerful than Superman in some ways, as he has a regenerative healing factor and can come back to life.

11 GORR THE GOD-BUTCHER

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has made it clear that the most powerful beings in the universe are from outside the planet Earth. While Thanos and Ego have proven to be overpowered villains in the MCU, the Gods of Norse mythology have proven to be amazingly powerful as well. While Thor, Odin, Loki, Hela and more have proven to be powerful enough to beat just about anyone, there is someone that scares even them.

Gorr is straight out of Norse mythology (though he is much different) and the fact that he is called the God Butcher should tell Marvel fans all they need to know. Gorr is a newcomer to comics though, appearing the first time in Thor: God of Thunder #2 as a being that set out to eliminate gods from all over the galaxy using a weapon that Galactus himself said came from the "first dawn."

10 MEPHISTO

Mephisto has appeared in Marvel movies before -- albeit not ones that were in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mephisto was in the Nicolas Cage Ghost Rider movies and had a great actor taking on the role in Peter Fonda for the first one. However, Mephisto was not the main bad guy in the movie as he was just there to manipulate Johnny Blaze into doing his will, which in the first movie was battling his son Blackheart.

In Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Ciaran Hinds took over and Mephisto was more of a nemesis. However, as a pure villain in the MCU, Mephisto is extremely overpowered -- more than just about anyone in the entire movie world. He is immortal and has magical powers that even dwarfs those of Doctor Strange... by far.

9 KANG THE CONQUEROR

Kang the Conqueror with the Avengers

While many fans might have big dreams of Kang the Conqueror showing up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Of course, fans got a chance to see Kang battle the heroes of the Marvel Universe in the video game, Lego Marvel Superheroes 2, where Kang changed the world into his own image and it took the entire universe of Marvel heroes to finally stop him.

Kang the Conqueror is a time-traveling Marvel supervillain who conquered the world in the future and then set his designs on other alternate Earths -- including the mainstream timeline. While he has no superpowers as such, he has technology from the 40th Century that there is no answer for in the present day, and aided with his knowledge of all past events, there isn't a more dangerous villain in the Marvel Universe.

8 SUPER-ADAPTOID

20 Marvel Villains Way Too Powerful For The MCU

There have been a large number of Super-Adaptiod creations over the years in Marvel Comics and the character has actually been around for over five decades now. So, what makes the Super-Adaptoid a villain that is possibly too powerful for the MCU? Imagine the Taskmaster -- except with the ability to mimic more than just fighting skills and movements.

The original Super-Adaptoid was created by A.I.M. using shards of the Cosmic Cube. Its powers are to mimic all abilities and weapons of anyone it sees, which it does with the Avengers and later the X-Men. The only way to beat Super-Adaptoid is to trick it, which makes it a beatable villain for the MCU, but with its heightened powers, there is no way it could be an interesting baddie on the big screen.

7 MOLECULE MAN

The Molecule Man is one of the most interesting supervillains in Marvel Comics history based on his character development alone. Owen Reece got his powers during a radiation accident at the atomic corporation where he worked and he ended up with the power to reshape the very building blocks of existence. The first time he appeared, it took the efforts of the Fantastic Four to trick him and the Watcher to ignore his oath and banish him.

Over time, it turned out that Owen was not a bad guy, but he was easily manipulated. He is also likely the most powerful being in the multiverse, and even made The Beyonder nervous. He defeated the entire Avengers team at one point and it took Tigra to convince him to seek out psychiatric help to stop him. No one in the MCU could beat Owen. Even Galactus said at one time that Owen could destroy him with only a thought.

6 THE PHOENIX FORCE

Sadly, Fox already tried to put the Dark Phoenix up on the movie screen and ended up with one of the worst critically reviewed X-Men movies of their entire run with the franchise. That is disappointing since there was a lot of enthusiasm for the movie based on a small look in X2 hinting that the Dark Phoenix was coming.

There will be a second chance for Fox to get it right with X-Men: Dark Phoenix amidst reshoots on the film starting up soon. However, when it comes to the Dark Phoenix, there are a lot of problems when it comes to working on the big screen. The fact is that Dark Phoenix is more powerful than every hero on Earth combined and the only way it has fallen was through self-sacrifice by the host.

5 THE GOBLIN ENTITY

20 Marvel Villains Way Too Powerful For The MCU

While the Phoenix Force is all-powerful, it is no match for the Goblin Entity. The Phoenix Force used its power to help balance life and existence in the universe, able to burn away anything that doesn't work -- basically cutting and regrowing the universe as it sees fit. On the other hand, the Goblin Entity derives its power from a ravenous hunger that can never be sated.

In the Earth-1298 world, the Goblin Entity not only proved to be all-powerful but destroyed other beings that seemed unbeatable before, devouring the Phoenix Force and even felling Galactus. The only beings powerful enough to take it down were the Celestials, but they had to sacrifice themselves just to contain it. There is no one in the MCU with the power to slow down this cosmic entity.

4 MAGUS

magus raising his gauntlet

Magus exists in order to counterbalance the existence of Adam Warlock and is his negative, which means at the end of the day that he has the same powers as Warlock. Maybe if the MCU finally brings in Adam Warlock to its cosmic world, Magus could fit into the universe there. But for now, he is way too powerful for the heroes that currently exist in the movies.

Magus is considered the Avatar of Life, in direct opposition to Thanos, who was called the Avatar of Death at the time. His powers include energy manipulation, sorcery, time manipulation, telepathic powers and cosmic powers, which have in the past been enhanced by the Infinity Gauntlet. On one occasion, he even took control of over 30 percent of the Earth's entire population. His machinations easily manipulate Earth's heroes and he remains one of the most overpowered villains in Marvel Comics.

3 AKHENATEN

Akhenaten

In the basic Marvel Comics Universe, Akhenaten was little more than a Pharoah in the 18th Dynasty who worshipped the sun god Aten. His biggest moment was meeting Apocalypse, who pretended to be Aten. However, head on over to Earth-4321 and witness an Akhenaten that is all-powerful and very destructive in the comic book special event miniseries Marvel: The End.

On this Earth, aliens known as the Celestial Order wanted to bring peace to the universe and gave Akhenaten the power to do so on Earth. However, Akhenaten became evil and ended up wiping out almost every superhero on the planet. It was only through Thanos traveling back in time that he was eventually stopped -- although that made Thanos even more dangerous in the long run.

2 AMATSU-MIKABOSHI

Amatsu-Mikaboshi and his army of enslaved deities

Take one look at Amatsu-Mikaboshi and realize that there is no way that the Disney owned Marvel Cinematic Universe would ever bring this character to the big screen without some major changes taming the look -- at the least. With that said, this is also one character that is way too powerful to find inclusion in the MCU to begin with.

When it comes to the enemies of Amatsu-Mikaboshi, this creature mostly battles the gods and has proven to be more powerful than most of them. He is an expert in Japanese dark magic that has a striking effect on the Olympian gods. He was also once a void that dominated Earth in its early years. The being is a force of nature --immortal and powerful enough to absorb the entire multiverse at a whim.

1 OBLIVION

Marvel's Oblivion sitting on a rocky throne

Possibly the most powerful character in Marvel Comics and one character that could never be a primary villain the MCU due to his inability to fall to the heroes there is Oblivion. This character came into existence at the start of the universe, along with Death, Infinity and Eternity. He often lives in the Outer Void but has also made life tough for Earth's heroes.

Oblivion is both omniscient and omnipresent and has infinite cosmic powers. It is impossible to defeat this being without the entire universe experiencing major consequences as a result. Luckily, Oblivion doesn't give Earth's heroes too many problems outside of specific meetings with Iceman when he wanted his daughter back and the Great Lakes Avengers when he messed with Squirrel Girl. Honestly, only his siblings, such as Infinity, can defeat him.
