The Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly putting together plans to introduce the X-Men and mutants to their ever expanding roster of characters. Fans are excited about the prospect of some of the team's heaviest hitters making their MCU debut.
While it will be exciting to see which X-Men are chosen to appear first, there are a number of out of the box choices that could fit into the established universe a lot easier and slowly set a path for other mutants to follow. Some of these characters might seem obscure at first and some aren't leading figures, but each could offer something unique to the universe.
10 Prodigy
Prodigy is an important part of the Marvel Universe. While he has contributed to the X-Men and the New Mutants, he's actually helped out teams like the Young Avengers as well. Even without his abilities, he is incredibly intelligent and a great leader, but with his powers he can absorb the knowledge of other mutants that he meets. This could be an interesting path to teasing and adding other mutant characters.
9 Forge
Forge is the kind of hero that could be naturally called upon in many difficult situations. With Tony Stark now dead, there needs to be another goatee sporting tech genius. Forge might be able to fill that role quite well. The character doesn't have to be explained as a mutant at first, but could lay some of the breadcrumbs towards the X-Men who he also works with.
8 Dust
Dust is one of the few Muslim characters in Marvel comics. Islam as a culture has not been depicted thus far in the MCU, which makes her a valuable addition.
She also has some unbelievable powers, able to turn into a dust cloud at will. She has a complex backstory involving a kidnapping and could be the kind of inspirational young woman that the MCU needs right now.
7 Callisto
Callisto is one of the most powerful Morlocks that has ever been seen in Marvel Comics. She's a strong and capable leader and could be an interesting first mutant for an Avenger to come across. With a hidden underground network of mutants, the characters in the MCU would be confused as to how this has gone unnoticed for so long. With every human ability enhanced, she's an easy first mutant to explain in terms of her powers.
6 Gambit
Gambit is not exactly one of the leading X-Men, although he's certainly a famous member of the team. He may be a character that could finally get the spotlight. He's a bit of a rogue element and with so many interesting ways to use his powers, visually he'd be a fun add on for the MCU. What's more, with solo films in development on the character for years, there's plenty of stories to adapt.
5 Oya
Combining the fire and ice powers of other mutants like Iceman and Pyro, Oya is an extremely talented young woman with a bright future ahead of her.
She's one of the first mutants introduced after M day, which could be a reason to bring her into the MCU, becoming one of the first mutants to emerge in this new world that's being created.
4 Wiccan
Wiccan is potentially already coming to the big screen, or at the very least arriving on Disney+ perhaps with the other Young Avengers. The son of Scarlet Witch also has a brother, Speed. The character is actually a mutant, but this magic wielding warrior is not only one of the most powerful sorcerers, he's also a key part of the plot that the films and series are exploring with Wanda and Vision, making him a great character to add.
3 Havok
Havok became a standout character during his time with the Uncanny Avengers, although he's also been a hero to look out for. He made his cinematic debut previously in First Class. However, the character could be perfectly positioned to begin a new wave of mutants in the MCU. His abilities to shoot massive blasts will help him match the powers of others in the universe as well.
2 Negasonic Teenage Warhead
She's already been very popular on screen thus far and if Deadpool could one day be making the jump to the MCU, then Negasonic Teenage Warhead could be a great first character to add. She'd be confused about the shifting reality, but her sarcastic sense of humor and incredible skills would help her navigate the changed world, making her a completely unexpected first mutant addition.
1 Multiple Man
The Multiple Man nearly got a feature length film starring James Franco, but that has likely collapsed due to the Disney and FOX merger that saw the X-Men join Marvel Studios.
It's an interesting idea to bring this character into the MCU and give him a solo outing, though. The character has a complex past and an even more complicated set of allegiances that could make him an interesting first mutant foe in the MCU.
