The Hindu community is upset about the depicted destruction of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Hindy Temple in a recent Uncanny X-Men issue, and they're urging Marvel to officially apologize.

In Uncanny X-Men #5 Nate Grey, also known as X-Man, destroys the sacred temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Thriuvananthapuram (India), along with other places of worship in Rome and Saudi Arabia, stating, "I cleansed the world of its fake houses of worship and false prophets." The alternate version of Cable believed the destruction of the such religious centerpieces was necessary in his plans to save the world. However, according to Rajan Zed, the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, it was extremely offensive and hurtful to the Hindu community for a worldwide company like Marvel to publish material that would label a scared and historically revered temple as a fake house of worship.

“Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken frivolously," Zed said in a statement. "Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller should not be mishandled." He expressed concern over the misrepresentation, saying that misconceptions about a person’s faith and traditions among non-Hindus could lead to pillaging and physical destruction of important spiritual doctrines or symbols.

Zed believes comic book publishers should be more sensitive when handling subjects relating to faith, and that Marvel should issue an immediate apology for hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community and post it transparently on its website.
