Marvel Comics has unveiled a series of variant covers for Black Widow comics to tie-in with next year's Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson.
The three covers feature artwork inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe's depiction of the former KGB spy and assassin, which Johansson has brought to life eight times on the silver screen.
The first variant cover, designed by Jen Bartel, will appear on Black Widow #3, by Kelly Thompson and Elena Casagrande.
Eisner award-winning artist Chris Samnee designed the variant cover for Widowmakers: Red Guardian and Yelena Belova #1. The cover for Devin Grayson and Michele Bandini's book features various characters from the upcoming film and is drawn in a movie poster style.
Stefano Caselli designed the variant cover for Ralph Macchio and Simone Buonfantino's one-shot Black Widow: Widow's Sting #1.
The three variant covers will be available starting this month. In the announcement, Marvel stated that additional MCU-inspired variant covers will soon be released for other Marvel Comics titles.
The Black Widow film, which will launch the MCU's Phase Four, was delayed twice due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason and Rachel Weisz. The film is currently planned to arrive in theaters May 7, 2021.
