The aftershocks of Marvel's next event series "Monsters Unleashed" will be felt long after the five-part saga concludes in early 2017. It's now been revealed that the Marvel Comics series, which launches in January 2017, will lead to a few new ongoing series. The new information was revealed during a live call with the press, with "Monsters Unleashed" writer Cullen Bunn, editor Mark Paniccia and Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso all taking part.

When asked about the book's potential for breakout characters, the assembled creators all said there are plenty in the series, including classic Marvel heroes. But to name some of the breakout characters would be revealing some of the series' secrets. Continuing from the talk of breakout characters, Axel Alonso revealed that there will be actual breakout series from "Monsters Unleashed."

"We have plans to spin at least two series out of this event," said Alonso. "Because we have faith in what we're doing. We feel we have at least two breakout characters moving out of this event that will be launching ongoing series with."

No word was given about what those spinoffs could be. The series will focus on many, many monsters from Marvel's extensive history as well as new ones created by Bunn and the artists. As the event series chronicles an all-hands-on-deck emergency for Earth, plenty of Marvel's heroes will be seen in the book. The Avengers, Champions, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy and Inhumans will all play a part, as will Moon Girl and Elsa Bloodstone among others. Additionally, the call confirmed that 2017 event will reintroduce Marvel's monsters in a big way and that many of them will become major players in the universe moving forward.

“Monsters Unleashed” will see a rampaging horde of Marvel’s classic beasts resurface in a colossal manner. The five-issue series will pair writer Cullen Bunn with a superstar roster of Marvel artists (Adam Kubert, Steve McNiven, Leinil Yu, Salvador Larroca and Greg Land) to chronicle the battle between superheroes and super monsters. The series will pit pretty much every monster ever seen in the Marvel Universe against the Avengers, Champions, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men and Inhumans.

"Monsters Unleashed" #1, written by Cullen Bunn with interior art by Steve McNiven, arrives in stores on January 18. Two issues will arrive each month in February and March. A number of tie-in one-shots will also arrive in early 2017.
