Thor is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe. Armed with Mjolnir, one of the most powerful weapons on the planet, the God of Thunder has been battling evil for decades. A member of the Avengers and the last line of defense between the Earth and the evils of the Nine Worlds, Thor is often the most powerful and stalwart combatant on the battlefield, willing to give his all in the battle against evil.

There have been more many versions of the character over the years and while he's done many great things over the years, he can also be a tad bit overrated. They say to err is human and if that is the case, then Thor is the most human god of them all.

10 OVERRATED: He Became Unworthy... Because Of Some Words

Thor Nick Fury

Thor's hammer can only be lifted by someone who is worthy and Thor had to work for millennia before he could be proven worthy. Once he did, his use of Mjolnir made a big difference in his battles, as Mjolnir gifted him with many abilities he didn't already have. It made him a better combatant and that led him to being instrumental in saving the world multiple times.

He was rendered unworthy, though, not by his actions but by the words of Nick Fury- Fury told him that Gorr was right. Gorr the God-Butcher said that gods are horrible creatures that hurt mortals and are all unworthy and when reminded of this, Thor felt unworthy of the hammer and lost the use of it.

9 DESERVES THE PRAISE: He Kept Fighting Even Without The Hammer

Unworthy Thor, unable to lift Mjolnir, in Marvel Comics

Without Mjolnir, Thor felt like he wasn't nearly the hero that he was before but that wasn't going to stop him from fighting the good fight. He would wield his older weapon, Jarnbjorn, and continue to do his best against his foes... although it didn't always work out very well.

That's not to say that he didn't wallow in his sorrow, but he didn't allow his loss of the hammer to completely change the way he lived his life. And the fact that he got maimed pretty badly but still kept fighting says a lot about his character and who he is as a hero.

8 OVERRATED: He Doesn't Always Take Threats Seriously

thor mjolnir marvel

Thor is easily one of the most powerful members of the Avengers and has often times made a huge difference in their battles. However, there are times when he lets that sort of thing go to his head-- Thor knows how powerful he is. He knows that he can be a difference-maker. He can have a very high opinion of himself and that's not always the best thing to have.

Sometimes, Thor doesn't take his opponents as seriously as he should, and that's not good at all, especially when one is responsible for fighting the types of threats that he is. If Thor gets taken down, there are few who can take his place.

7 DESERVES THE PRAISE: He Cares

If there's one thing that his whole unworthiness thing proves, it's that Thor cares. Not just about his friends, either-- Thor cares about the people of the Earth so much that the mere reminder of Gorr's words started a crisis of confidence that made him forget just how much he'd made a difference over the years. Thor was sent to Earth by Odin to learn humility and there's no way the Thor of old would have been affected the same way by Gorr's words or Fury's reminding him of them.

The whole affair proved one thing- that Thor cares about everyone under his protection and that extends to the entirety of humanity and beyond.

6 OVERRATED: His Temper Gets The Best Of Him A Lot

thor defeated fear itself

Thor is a Viking god- he likes to drink and fight and has a tendency to get rather angry at times. While anger can be a helpful emotion in a fight, it's not helpful at other times. Thor knows how to harness his anger in battle and use it to his advantage but when he's not fighting, he can still be rather temperamental.

This has been pretty bad over the years, as he's come to blows with his friends on more than one occasion. Not only that, but his temper has messed up well-laid plans with the Avengers in battle and also drove a wedge between him and his teammates at times.

5 DESERVES THE PRAISE: The Big Guy

Cosmic Thor

Thor is usually the most powerful, experienced, and skilled fighter on the battlefield and he takes that very seriously. He knows he's powerful and he knows that he's more powerful than his friends, so he tries to not only look out for them but take down the threats that could hurt them before they can get injured. Thor throws himself into the breach against the most powerful threats, even ones who are vastly superior to him.

Thor has no problem putting himself in situations where even he could die if it means his friends can live to keep fighting and get the win.

4 OVERRATED: Apparently, Gods & Fools Rush In

Marvel's Thor

Thor's power level has got him through a lot of things over the years but it can also be a huge detriment for a lot of reasons but one of the biggest is that he has a tendency to rush into things.

This has caused a lot of trouble over the years- Thor has run into all kinds of fights, gotten beat down very badly, and had to get his fat pulled out of the fire. This has put both him, the biggest gun on the battlefield, and his allies in jeopardy.

3 DESERVES THE PRAISE: Comes From Behind

Thor Black Winter feature

Thor might take a beating but he's also been known for his ability to secure the win for his team even when he's taken said beating. This is actually super important- Thor may rush in and take a whupping but he's been known for his ability to come back from a beating and take the win back from the jaws of defeat.

Thor's power and experience have allowed him to take a beating, come from behind, and get the win, almost making up for the fact that he rushed in and almost messed up everything in the first place.

2 OVERRATED: He's Kind Of Dumb

Copiel Thor Hammer

No mincing words here- Thor is kind of dumb. He means well and is a great friend to have, but he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. For someone who has been fighting for as long as he has and has had to deal with someone like Loki, Thor has never really learned very much. He's been taken in by many of the same tricks many times over the years.

Now, this isn't to say Thor isn't smart at all or anything like that, but he makes a lot of the same mistakes that he always has.

1 DESERVES THE PRAISE: He's The Best Kind Of Friend To Have

Thor

Thor is a lot of things but there's one thing that is for sure- he's one of the best friends any hero could have. Thor may be a bit dumb about many things, but he'll do anything for his friends. If any one of his friends needs anything, Thor will move heaven and Earth to make it happen for them.

Not only that, but Thor will do anything for the people under his protection as well, which is the entire planet. Thor may seem like he's all about fighting and to an extent he is, but he's also just a genuinely good person and he would do anything for those under his protection or his friends.
