Though Sam Neill is about to appear in his second Marvel Cinematic Universe film thanks to Thor: Love and Thunder, the actor still has no idea what's going on in the franchise.

Appearing on the radio show Fitzy and Wippa, Neill spoke to presenter Sarah McGilvray about his role in the MCU—and how little sense any of it makes to him. "I’ve never understood any of the Thor films," Neill said. "In fact, the whole Marvel universe is a complete mystery to me."

"I mean I was standing beside Jenny Morris (on the set of Thor: Ragnarok) and I said, 'Do you know what planet we’re on?' To be honest, I was completely baffled," Neill admitted. "I came back, I was baffled again, I did my bit, I don’t know who are playing who exactly because they are sort of swapping roles."

McGilvray then explained that Neill plays "the fake version of Thor’s dad," to which Neill responded, "What? I wish someone had told me that, that’s so much easier!"

Neill has admitted he didn't understand Thor: Ragnarok before, and it seems that returning for the fourth film didn't provide him with any extra clarity. In the last film, Neill appeared as Odin in a play put on by Loki (disguised as Odin) which recounted the events of Thor: The Dark World. In the play-within-the-film, Matt Damon played Loki and Luke Hemsworth filled in for his real-life brother as Thor.

Early reports for Love and Thunder confirmed that all three would be returning for Taika Waititi's follow-up, presumably retelling the events since the last movie. What's more, but Melissa McCarthy will be in Thor 4 as a chief character from the Asgardian side of the MCU. With filming on Thor: Love and Thunder wrapped, a trailer won't be far off. Perhaps that will finally give Neill some insight into his ongoing role.
