Jen Walters is one of the best female "sidekick" versions of an originally male hero. She isn't just a knock off of him, personality and stories striking far different chords than Bruce's. Their abilities may be similar, but their strengths levels are far different, as are some of their minor powers.

What sets She-Hulk apart is how much more fun-loving she is in comparison to Bruce, who's stories are almost always serious. It provides a nice contrast when they are together, so long as the fourth wall isn't being broken. She still has her fair share of moments that don't make a whole lot of sense, however.

10 Her Ability to Switch Between Forms At Will

It works from a narrative standpoint because a big part of her character is liking her hulk form more than her human one, making her the inverse of Bruce in that way. Due to this, her retaining her personality and intelligence in her she-hulk form makes total sense.

What's confusing has always been her ability to turn it off and on at will. In the Hulk family, this ability seems wildly inconsistent while some of them can do it, Red Hulk being another, and others can't. She also loses it and regains the ability seemingly at will.

9 How Often She Loses Her Powers

A hero losing their powers or memory is an easy tactic to use if you want to be able to give them a soft reboot, but it's ridiculous how often it happens to Jen. She loses her powers and regains them sometimes multiple times in the same arc. She had and didn't have her powers what felt like five different times during World War Hulk alone.

It's something that gets used as a plot device with her far too often, an easy cop-out for writers to give her something to overcome. Same goes with her going Savage She-Hulk.

8 Inability To Decide If She Wants To Be A Hero

A lot of the issues with She-Hulk come down to poor writing and the need to rehash the story over and over again ad-nauseum. The biggest culprit of this is her flip-flopping between being a superhero or living a normal life as a lawyer.

She's given up on being a hero far too often for someone who's been an Avenger and member of the Fantastic Four. It feels like the second she does something wrong, she gives up and goes back to being a lawyer. Once or twice can be a good story, but it's happened far too often and doesn't make sense for the character at all.

7 Her Party Girl Mentality

Her rebellious streak is fine, making sense for She-hulk being everything that Jen isn't, presenting herself as the person she always wished she could be. It's a cool dynamic that's explored in a couple of her solo series very well.

The issue with it is that some writers take it to the extreme, having her sleep with just about anyone that looks at her. Worst of these is probably Tony Stark, a man who'd conspired to shoot her cousin into space during the Planet/World War Hulk saga.

6 Being For And Against The Registration Act

This was a storyline both didn't make sense and could have been excellent if given more time. Exploring the differing opinions between Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk could be a pretty compelling story, really playing up how different the two personas could be, but that never seems to happen unless she goes savage.

That said, it's a bit confusing why the two forms would have different views, to begin with when the two of them are the same person, more so than any other member of the Hulk family.

5 Grey Hulk

On its own, there's nothing wrong with Grey She-Hulk, her cousin has one after all. It's a side effect of being a Hulk. The issue is how she acts in it feels to have very little difference from her Savage form. At least with Bruce, he develops a very grey morality along with his color change.

The only real difference between it and Savage is she has a broken speech, bulking up marginally. At least the end of the most recent arc featuring that side of her ended in a pretty satisfactory way, Jen having to confront it and Thanos in her subconscious.

4 Ability To Switch Bodies

She-Hulk

She learned this from the Ovoid alien race, giving her the ability to swap bodies oddly. Instead of her looking like the person she swaps with, she gains their physical characteristics and powers.

That means if she'd swap with someone like say Tony Stark, she'd still look like She-Hulk but only have the capabilities of a normal human man. Tony, on the other hand, would look like himself, but have her physical prowess. It's an odd ability that she rightfully doesn't use all that often.

3 Breaking The Fourth Wall

This is one of the things a character like Deadpool is more known for, breaking the fourth wall and all around being a zany character. For him, it works because most of his comics are just random events happening around him. He's not a character that you'd label as serious by any stretch of the word.

She-Hulk isn't either, but it feels very out of place when used in comics outside of her solo book or when she has a character like her cousin Bruce, helping her. It's also just a tactic that is overused with comic books now.

2 Trying to Make A Solo Film In The 80s

More power to Marvel for trying to give it a go, attempting to capitalize on the success of the Incredible Hulk film, but they had to know this was never going to work out. For as cool a character as Jen is, she isn't nearly as popular as her cousin Bruce and even he isn't exactly top tier in terms of popularity in Marvel.

There was no way a solo film with her was going to work, back then or now. A television show, on the other hand, could be right up here alley as her adventures as a lawyer/superhero plays far better there.

1 How Often Other Hulks Manhandle Her

It's sad just how often she's taken down by other Hulks, rarely ever even being a competitive fight. The various incarnations of the Hulk have slapped her around with ease, World Breaker Hulk being the most notable, but Immortal Hulk also did punch her across a state.

Red Hulk meanwhile swatted her around like a fly until eight other female heroes showed up to put him down, and even that wasn't a win. Even Red She-Hulk's beaten her before. While she obviously shouldn't be on par with the Hulk in strength, it'd be nice if she was at least competitive every once and awhile.
