Marvel Comics has released the solicitation information and covers for X Deaths of Wolverine #5, by writer Benjamin Percy and artist Federico Vicentini. The solicitation text teases the arrival of the "Omega Wolverine."
Created by Roy Thomas, Len Wein and John Romita Sr., Wolverine first appeared in 1974's The Incredible Hulk #180 and served as an opponent for the titular Avenger. Since then, Wolverine -- whose main power is a healing factor that renders him virtually invincible -- has become one of Marvel's most popular characters, and he's appeared in a variety of films, TV series and video games. A relatively recent storyline, "The Death of Wolverine," saw the titular hero dying, However, he later returned to life and has served as a key member of the X-Men during their time on Krakoa.
Announced in September, X Deaths of Wolverine is a five-issue series connected with X Lives of Wolverine and is meant to usher in the Second Krakoan Age much like how House of X and Powers of X ushered in the First Krakoan Age. Both series are set to debut in January and focus on what happens when Wolverine's pasts meet his future.
Plot synopses for X Deaths of Wolverine and X Lives of Wolverine tease James Howlett/Logan navigating the time stream and re-living a number of key events from his life. Along the way, he'll have to contend with such classic villains as Omega Red as well as different versions of himself. In the process, the fate of Krakoa may be changed forever. For its part, the solicitation for X Deaths of Wolverine tease a showdown meant to determine the "Omega Wolverine." Just what that term means isn't totally clear at this time.
