Yesterday, Marvel Comics revealed the name (if not the identity) of its newest cosmic player, a masked entity known as Requiem. Now, we get a hint of which side the character is on when Infinity Wars arrives this summer, and it's not standing with our heroes. At least, that's what Mike Deodato Jr. and Frank Martin's teaser art would have us believe.

The artwork depicts Requiem, broadsword in one hand, standing over the body of Star-Lord with an apparently unconscious, or at least helpless, Captain Marvel in their left hand. Impaled on the sword is what appears to be a de-stoned Infinity Gauntlet, and while there's no explicit confirmation that Peter Quill has suffered a similar, fatal fate, the image is accompanied by the phrase "DEATH WINS."

The original Infinity War series from 1992 revolved around the Magus’ efforts to use the Infinity Gauntlet for his own evil machinations. Though Magus did appear in the run-up to the current Infinity Countdown storyline, he was quickly killed by the event’s true villain – the human/android hybrid Ultron Pym.

Below is the official synopsis for Infinity Wars: Prime #1, which arrives in July 2018.

In INFINITY WARS: PRIME #1, the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe reap what they sow as their frantic search for the Infinity Stones leads to cosmic madness like never before. The simmering events of recent months spiral into something much, much bigger in this colossal story.
