Marvel Teases "Civil War" Sequel for Spring 2016

Retailer Ryan Higgins, owner of Comics Conspiracy in Sunnyvale, California, shared via Twitter a postcard sent to his store from Marvel Comics -- showing Iron Man and the current Captain America, Sam Wilson, squaring off on one side; with "II" and "Spring 2016," in the same font as the original "Civil War" logo, on the other.

Marvel declined comment when reached by CBR News.

Of course, spring 2016 would put this new series near the release of Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War," scheduled to debut on May 6, 2016. Though the film looks to departure from the source material in various ways, the basic premise -- an ideological-turned-physical battle between teams of heroes led by Captain America and Iron Man -- remains the same.

The original "Civil War," written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Steve McNiven, was a massive success for Marvel in 2006-2007. The publisher revisited the concept again this past summer during the "Secret Wars" event, with a miniseries by Charles Soule and Leinil Yu.

With this year's New York Comic Con taking place later this week, it's possible more details surrounding this teaser may surface in the near future. Keep reading CBR for the latest.
