If you weren't among the audiences that led to the $65.1 million opening weekend for Captain America: The First Avenger and you somehow missed the murky bootleg footage of the post-credits sequence, Marvel has a little something to entice you into theaters. "Only in theaters," the footage says in all-capital letters, reaffirming that Marvel knows its core audience well.
As Captain America heads into its second weekend, where it faces competition from Cowboys & Aliens, BoxOfficeMojo estimates the Joe Johnston-directed film has grossed nearly $86.5 million domestically.
The Avengers stars s Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgård. Directed by Joss Whedon, the movie opens on May 4, 2012.
