Genis-Vell, son of the original Kree Captain Marvel, will be front and center in the upcoming Genis-Vell: Marvel Tales #1.

Marvel made the announcement that writer Kelly Thompson's story arc, "The Last of the Marvels," will see the superhero drawn from out of obscurity as a "mysterious new enemy begins targeting every hero with a connection to the Captain Marvel legacy." The new issues will further flesh out the artificially created Genis-Vell, who came to prominence in the 2000s through the work of Peter David and ChrisCross. Cover art by Carlos Pacheco was also released, depicting Genis-Vell atop stone debris in a triumphant posture.

"Meet the son of the greatest warrior the galaxy has ever known! Spawned in a test tube, Genis-Vell now struggles to fill the boots of his late father Mar-Vell — the original Kree Captain Marvel," announced the publisher. Playing up some of the comedic elements of the story, which derive from Genis' unique relationship with Rick Jones, Marvel commands, "Get ready for Peter David and Chriscross' hilarious saga featuring the Hulk, Wendigo, Moondragon…and Rick's estranged wife, Marlo!"

Having also been known as Legacy and Photon, Genis-Vell became the third figure to take on the mantle of Captain Marvel. He uses "Legacy" as a code name in 1993's Silver Surfer Annual #6, which contains his debut appearance. Despite the efforts by David and ChrisCross to spark a growing interest in the character, Genis-Vell has not been featured in any titles for over a decade.

Genis-Vell: Marvel Tales #1 was written by Peter David with artwork by ChrisCross and cover by Carlos Pacheco. It is due out in November.
