To be a superhero is something many people dream about, no matter what their age is. After all, having special powers and helping people would be the best thing that could happen to anyone, right? Well, not exactly. While the superhero life does have its charms, it isn't as perfect as the comic books would sometimes have its readers to believe.

Superheroes not only face many dangers in various forms but also sometimes have trouble coinciding with their personal and work lives. And what's even more, sometimes their superpowers aren't all that great. In fact, some of them can be kind of disgusting, as the following 10 Marvel superheroes would surely agree.

10 Maggott

Marvel Comics X-Men Maggott

Maggott is a lesser-known Marvel hero, and maybe the reason is that his superpowers are a bit gross - or rather the system how his body works. Maggott has powers thanks to his abnormal digestive system which is formed by two mutant giant slugs who live inside Maggott's body.

The slugs can leave his body, absorb the power of any objects, and then return to Maggott's body and give him said power. The best thing about it? They have to eat through Maggott's skin to do it. Ouch.

9 Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist X-Force Mike ALlred

Zeitgeist, known also under his civil name of Alex Cluney, doesn't have the best of powers. He has the ability to spew acidic vomit from his mouth which is exactly as disgusting as it sounds.

Alex learned the truth about his unfortunate power when he was making out with a girl - he vomited at her and burned her face but luckily for both of them, she survived. It's easy to imagine this kind of power makes Alex's dating life very difficult.

8 Anarchist

Anarchist X-Statix

Anarchist is a member of the superhero team X-Statix. Funnily enough, his power is a bit similar to Zeitgeist's. Anarchist doesn't spew acidic vomit, but instead, he has the power to secrete acidic sweat.

While it might in handy when fighting enemies, it also makes Anarchist less user-friendly, so to speak. Maybe he and Zeitgeist should team up and form their own villain-fighting acidic duo?

7 Tar Baby

Tar Baby didn't have an easy life and met a gruesome end. His powers did very little to make everything better for him. His genetic mutation allowed him to secrete a tar-like substance with great adhesivity.

That meant that Tar Baby could stick to whatever object or person he decided to. But he was captured by the Weapon X program and later killed.

6 Dead Girl

Dead Girl X-Force cover by Michael Allred

Some superheroes don't have very imaginative code names. Dead Girl is one of them. Her powers activated when she died and she came back to life - sort of. She can continuously reanimate her corpse and since she isn't really alive any longer (hence the name), she doesn't need to eat, breathe, or drink.

But the truly disgusting part is that she can control severed parts of her own body. Hmm, then again that gives a lot of space for jokes if one enjoys a bit of dark humor.

5 Big Bertha

Big Bertha, a controversial character in Marvel Comics

Big Bertha is actually one of the more capable superheroes on this list and also members of the Great Lakes Avengers. She can gain weight at will and use the extra weight to crush her opponents which makes her a person people shouldn't make angry.

The disgusting part comes when Big Bertha wants to return to her original state - instead of just letting all the extra weight disappear, she has to purge the majority of her body which is never pretty.

4 Deadpool

Deadpool's powers are no doubt useful, even if they make him look the way he does, a fact Deadpool or other characters often make fun of. Deadpool is virtually immortal because of his healing factor.

Even if someone chops him to pieces or rips his head off, he puts himself back together. The ugly part is watching Deadpool put himself together since there's usually a lot of blood and internal organs spilled all around involved.

3 The Corruptor

Jackson Day has a somewhat complicated power that allows him to control the action of others and make them subject to his will. He secretes a strong psychoactive drug through his sweat glands and when he uses the drug on people, they do whatever he asks them to do.

In order to administrate his powers, though, he has to run his sweaty hands over the other person which can't be pleasant for either side or even nice to look at.

2 Husk

Husk Secondary Mutation

A bit similar to Big Bertha, Husk also sheds a part of herself when she's using her powers. Paige Guthrie has the power to form another shape or herself underneath her skin, to use any material, for example, that would provide her with an edge on the battlefield.

But to do that, she has to rip her old skin away and she usually just leaves it lying there on the ground.

1 Debrii

Finally, let's end this list on a positively smelly note! Deborah Fields aka Debrii has the power to move around a large amount of garbage by using her telekinetic skills.

She basically works like a living magnet for garbage, and once she accumulates enough garbage, she can throw it on her enemies. That's handy in a fight but also makes it difficult to get close to Debrii since she just stinks.
