San Diego Comic-Con 2022 (SDCC) will be without one of its largest players when its doors open on July 21.

According to One Take News, Marvel Studios will be skipping this year's convention. Disney, Marvel's parent company, is running D23 Expo 2022 this coming September and reportedly wants Marvel to have a major presence there. This would mean that any major announcements that were supposed to take place during Comic-Con will most likely take place at D23. (CBR also heard rumblings that Marvel Studios would be skipping San Diego Comic-Con 2022 but could not get confirmation.)

This would not be the first time Marvel Studios has passed up San Diego Comic-Con. The company did not attend SDCC in 2018, which was right after Avengers: Infinity War released in theaters. It also skipped 2021's Comic-Con@Home, opting to hold its materials for future conventions and virtual Disney events.

It's a busy time for Marvel Studios, which just debuted Ms. Marvel, its latest TV series, on Disney+. Next on deck on the TV side is She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Aug. 17), What If...? Season 2 (2022), Secret Invasion (TBA), Echo (2023), Loki Season 2 (TBA), X-Men '97 (mid-2023) Ironheart (TBA), Armor Wars (TBA), Agatha: House of Harkness (TBA), Daredevil (TBA), Nova (TBA), Marvel Zombies (TBA), Spider-Man: Freshman Year (TBA), an untitled Wakanda series (TBA) and an untitled series spinning out of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (TBA). Finally, I Am Groot, a collection of shorts starring Vin Diesel's lovable tree hero, will debut on Aug. 10.
