Ever since the shape-shifing Skrulls first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain Marvel, there have been rumors that Marvel Studios has been planning a storyline based on the comic book event Secret Invasion.

According to journalist Daniel Richtman, those rumors may be true, as he reports the studio may be developing a Secret Invasion TV series for Disney+ that will tie into the upcoming Captain Marvel 2.

"I hear the reports are true and there really is a kind of Secret Invasion related show in development for Disney+ that will lead straight into Captain Marvel 2 which I told you awhile ago would likely be Secret Invasion," Richtman said. "I think the show would likely focus on SWORD and the Invasion from the side of the Skrulls and Kree and Captain Marvel 2 from the side of the heroes."

Secret Invasion was a 2008 comic book event by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu. In it, the heroes of the Marvel Universe discovered the Skrulls had begun replacing heroes and infiltrated the Earth through not only the government but the Avengers themselves. Through careful planning and surprise, the invading aliens nearly succeeded in taking over the world in a permanent manner.

The Skrulls made their MCU debut in Captain Marvel before returning in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the latter, the aliens are seen with Nick Fury in a Skrull spaceship somewhere in space, his exact whereabouts and mission a mystery.
