Netflix may have canceled its Defenders series, but its characters may find new life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumor has it that Marvel is already in the early stages of development on projects featuring the superhero team.

According to MCU Cosmic, Marvel might not have to wait to revive Defenders characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil. Although it is just a rumor at this point, there could be more Defenders content sooner rather than later.

There is little information about casting, premise, premiere dates or even if they will exist in the same universe as the Netflix shows. MCU Cosmic speculates Daredevil and the Punisher will be the first to get their own vehicle, suggesting that "specifically the Punisher could be used in a Midnight Sons team with Doctor Strange, Blade, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Elsa Bloodstone (who is also slated for an MCU appearance)."

When Netflix canceled all five shows in their Defenders franchise, they enacted a two-year moratorium that started when each series ended. However, this latest rumor suggests Netflix and Disney may have struck some other deal, which means fans could quite possibly get more Defenders content earlier than expected.

Currently streaming on Netflix, Marvel’s The Defenders stars Kristen Ritter, Charlie Cox, Mike Coulter and Finn Jones.
