Marvel Studios is reportedly developing a fifth Avengers movie featuring the Midnight Sons team.

As reported by That Hashtag Show, Marvel is rumored to be developing several team-up/crossover films, including Young Avengers and Dark Avengers/Thunderbolts, as well as a new entry in the main Avengers series which will feature the Midnight Sons.

The project, simply titled Midnight Sons, will allegedly feature a combination of new characters and previously-established ones coming together to face down the world’s darkest and most powerful supernatural threats. The team would consist of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Blade (set to be played by Mahershala Ali in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film of the same name) and Moon Knight (set to be played by Oscar Isaac in Disney +'s Moon Knight).

The report states that Ghost Rider, Hannibal King and Hellstrom would make appearances in the film, with the Johnny Blaze incarnation of Ghost Rider rumored to be making his MCU debut in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The Lilin demon known as Blackout would serve as the primary antagonist with "teases of Mephisto" throughout the film.

With Multiverse of Madness already positioning Stephen Strange and the newly-christened Scarlet Witch as major players, the Blade film and Moon Knight Disney+ series are already in active development. These three projects would lay the groundwork for the Midnight Sons crossover.

In the comics, The Midnight Sons are a supernatural division of the Avengers that specifically combat mystical and evil threats. The team is brought together by Doctor Strange, with the original lineup consisting of characters like Morbius, Blade, Hannibal King and two versions of Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch). Other sometime members of the team included Wong, Moon Knight, Hellstrom, Iron Fist, Man-Thing, Doctor Voodoo and Scarlet Spider.

The Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers team was previously teased by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, alluded to by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus), with characters like John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Black Widow’s Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) on the roster. A Young Avengers film has also been the subject of some conjecture, with the MCU steadily introducing characters like Eli Bradley, who became Patriot as part of the Young Avengers comic lineup.

None of these projects have been officially confirmed by Marvel, though cast listing for Multiverse of Madness has implied that the film will incorporate inter-dimensional and supernatural elements that could open the door for the potential usage of the Midnight Sons in a later MCU entry.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez. The film arrives in theaters March 25, 2022.
