The new introduction was teased a day before its release by Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger. On Saturday afternoon he tweeted, "To all fans of #BlackPanther: watch the film on #DisneyPlus late tonight, for a special tribute to someone that was and will always be near and dear to our hearts." At the time, fans did not know what Iger was alluding to, but Marvel Studios shared the montage on Sunday morning, hours after it was released on Disney+.

The Marvel Studios introduction typically includes a montage of Marvel superheroes, but the newly released intro only shows images of Boseman's role as Black Panther. It includes scenes from the film, artwork of Boseman's character, and shots of the actor on set. It is an ultimate compilation of Boseman's legacy at Marvel and his impact on cinematic history.

Boseman passed away on Aug. 28, after a long battle with colon cancer. Although he was diagnosed in 2016, the actor kept his condition quiet and continued to film movies, including 21 Bridges, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Da 5 Bloods. The new version of Black Panther featuring Boseman's montage is currently streaming on Disney+.
