The financial success of "Captain America: Civil War" has propelled the Marvel Cinematic Universe past the $10 billion threshold at the worldwide box office -- solidifying the 13-film series as the highest-grossing franchise of all time.

According to Deadline, the 13 Marvel Studios films have earned $10.03 billion over nine years, now that "Civil War's" gross of $940.9 million (so far) has been added to the tally.

"Captain America: Civil War" is now the fourth-highest grossing superhero movie of all time, behind Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" ($946 million), "The Avengers" ($895 million) and "Iron Man 3" ($806 million). It also stands as the second-highest grossing film of 2016, behind Disney's "Zootopia," which raked in $970 million from its run.
