Known as Marvel's original superhero team, the Fantastic Four were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Consisting of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Susan Richards (née Storm)/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/the Thing, the team first appeared in 1961's The Fantastic Four #1.

Marvel's First Family Is Coming to the MCU

The Fantastic Four have been adapted into live-action on numerous occasions. First, there was producer Roger Corman's 1994 film The Fantastic Four, which was never officially released to the public. Years after Corman's adaptation failed to launch, 20th Century Fox released the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Fox then released a Fantastic Four reboot film in 2015.

Following The Walt Disney Company's 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Marvel Studios announced its own Fantastic Four reboot in December 2020. Initially, Jon Watts -- director of the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy -- was attached to helm the film. However, Watts ultimately exited the project.

The 2022 Phase Four film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness became the first Marvel Studios project to feature a member of the Fantastic Four, with The Office's John Krasinski making a cameo as a multiversal variant of Reed Richards (who was quickly killed off). Marvel Studios has not stated if Krasinski would play the MCU's main Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four reboot, though the prospect seems unlikely.
