Disney's Marvel Studios and Warner Bros.' DC Films will be absent from this year's edition of Comic-Con International's virtual convention, Comic-Con@Home.

Deadline reports that the film divisions of both Marvel and DC will be sitting out Comic-Con@Home 2021. At this time, it remains to be seen if Sony Pictures' upcoming Marvel films -- Morbius, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the latter of which is a Marvel Studios co-production -- will have any kind of presence at the virtual event.

This marks the second year in a row that Marvel Studios has skipped Comic-Con@Home. The studio's last Comic-Con appearance came at Comic-Con International in San Diego (SDCC) 2019, when it unveiled the slate of feature films and Disney+ original series that would be released as part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Meanwhile, this is actually the third year in a row DC Films has lacked a presence at Comic-Con International. DC's film division was last seen at SDCC 2018, when Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot offered fans a sneak peek at Wonder Woman 1984. However, DC Comics will still be at Comic-Con@Home this year to highlight its various print titles. Furthermore, while DC Films is sitting out the event, Warner Bros. TV will still be in attendance to highlight the television series DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

After sitting out Comic-Con@Home 2020, Marvel Studios instead delivered its big announcements at Disney Investor Day 2020, which took place several months later. Meanwhile, DC held its very own virtual convention, DC FanDome, to show off its various film, TV and comic book projects. DC FanDome is set to return for another installment this September.

Of course, the in-person SDCC 2020 was canceled as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Comic-Con@Home was held online instead, with plans for Comic-Con International's flagship in-person convention to return this year. However, after further consideration, the in-person SDCC 2021 was canceled as well, with Comic-Con@Home returning for its second annual event. That being said, there are tentative plans for an in-person "Comic-Con Special Edition" event in San Diego this November.
