Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali will play Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed at Comic-Con International in San Diego towards the end of the company's presentation that Ali would play Blade in the MCU. At this time, it's not totally clear when Ali will make his debut. However, Marvel Studios released a logo with the character's name on Twitter. Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Eric Brooks/Blade first appeared in 1973's The Tomb of Dracula #10. The skilled fighter possesses the powerful physical abilities of a vampire, though is able to walk in the daylight without being killed. Throughout the comics, he's been portrayed as a vampire hunter. He was played by Wesley Snipes in three Blade films, and by Sticky Fingaz in a 2006's television series.

There were rumors Hulu was eyeing a series centered on Blade, but this announcement seems to have put that rumor to rest.

Ali is an Academy Award winning actor known for his roles in such films as Moonlight and Green Book. He previously played Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes on Season 1 of the Netflix series Luke Cage.
