Marvel Studios revealed at D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, that Black Panther 2 will release on May 6, 2022.

The movie is a sequel to 2018's Black Panther, which was well-received by critics and fans, going on to make a record $1.347 billion at the worldwide box office. The plot of the upcoming sequel is not known at this time, though there has been a lot of speculation claiming Namor the Sub-Mariner will play a role in the upcoming film.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, T'Challa/Black Panther first appeared in 1966's Fantastic Four #52. The character hails from the technologically-advanced African nation of Wakanda, which features major stores of vibranium -- one of the most valuable resources in the Marvel universe. The immensely popular hero first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the events of 2016's Captain America: Civil War

The Black Panther sequel was officially announced at SDCC in July and is currently in development. Ryan Coogler is returning as writer and director with Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira and Martin Freeman reprising their roles. The film releases May 6, 2022.
