There are a large number of sorcerers, witches, and other forms of magic-wielders in the Marvel Universe. Magic has deep roots in Marvel Comics, dating back to the Marvel Age with characters like Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch being early magic users in their superhero publication history.

The rules of magic tend to shift given the countless creative teams that have written magical characters in Marvel as well as the decades of continuity behind it all. Despite that, there are undeniably a set of powerhouse magic-users in Marvel Comics. There are godlike beings such as Mephisto, Dormammu, Nightmare, Saturnyne, and Shuma-Gorath, but those are entities on a whole other plane of existence. What's really impressive is the sorcerers, witches, and others who train and educate themselves to become the most powerful magic-wielders in the Multiverse.

10 STRONGEST: Doctor Doom, The Scientist Sorcerer Foe Of The Fantastic Four

Doctor Doom, the archnemesis of the Fantastic Four, is mainly known for his scientific mind and technological acumen. However, Victor Von Doom has a long history in dabbling with magic to the point where he was a potential successor as Sorcerer Supreme when Stephen Strange lost the title.

Doom has attempted to raise his mother from the dead, made deals with Mephisto and other demons, and dived deep into the magical energy of the underworld. Most recently, Doctor Doom was able to pacify the Guardians of the Galaxy, Wiccan included, largely with his magical prowess.

9 WEAKEST: Pixie, The Untrained Mutant/Fairy Hybrid Of The X-Men

Pixie is a relatively recent addition to the X-Men who is a hybrid of mutant and fairy. She has natural proficiency in magic, and Doctor Strange even once offered to train her further. It seems this never came to pass, and Pixie only has a handful of spells at her disposal.

It has been shown that she can teleport, put others to sleep, and, most impressively, banish a demon.

8 STRONGEST: Morgan Le Fay, A Sorceress Who Has Warped Reality

Morgan Le Fay is an evil sorceress who initially lived in Arthurian times and has a long history with the Black Knight. However, she has often found ways to affect the present, reaching out through time and space to challenge the Avengers, the Thunderbolts, and Excalibur. Most recently, she was seen as the ruler of the Otherworld realm known as Avalon, but she was ousted and replaced by Jamie Braddock.

Morgan Le Fay has a particular fascination with Doctor Doom, but he often rebuffs her advances. She has proven a dangerous threat on several occasions, even shown able to warp reality as she sees fit. During the Age of Ultron event, the heroes of Earth had to stop the forces of Morgan Le Fay from overwhelming the Earth, and she proved just as much a threat as the apocalyptic forces of Ultron.

7 WEAKEST: Senor Magico, A Street Magician Who Resents Doctor Strange

Senor Magico shrugging

Senor Magico practices what is called "street magic" and has proven himself a friend to Luke Cage and the Heroes for Hire. Little is known about his full potential, but he showed himself proficient enough to help Luke Cage and Iron Fist when they needed a hand.

Magico claimed to be a more powerful sorcerer than Doctor Strange, but he has yet to prove this.

6 STRONGEST: Wiccan, Who Is One Day Destined To Become The Demiurge

Wiccan was another potential successor to the title of Sorcerer Supreme. He is a longtime member of the Young Avengers, though he and his husband, Hulkling, have recently joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Billy Kaplan and fellow Young Avenger, Tommy Shepherd, are reincarnations of Scarlet Witch's lost children.

Wiccan's magic is wish-based, as he just has to repeat what he wants to happen over and over to turn it into a spell. However, he can't use the same phrase as a spell more than once. Wiccan is destined to one day become a godlike being called the Demiurge who, in one potential future, destroys the Utopian Parallel--the home dimension of fellow Young Avenger America Chavez.

5 WEAKEST: Doctor Druid, An Illusionist With Delusions Of Grandeur

Doctor Druid was a member of the Avengers for a time, and he proved himself to be a fairly arrogant and mean-spirited hero. Anthony Ludgate's powers mainly extended to illusion-creation and little else. He eventually left the team.

In a miniseries called Druid by Warren Ellis and Leonardo Manco, Ludgate was reborn as Druid, a dangerous and powerful sorcerer with abilities far beyond Ludgate's prior magical prowess. In the end, however, Druid was killed and stripped of his powers by Daimon Hellstrom.

4 STRONGEST: Doctor Strange, The Sorcerer Supreme And Master Of The Mystic Arts

Doctor Strange #1 cover detail

Doctor Strange has proven himself time and again to be one of the most skilled, creative, and powerful sorcerers in the Marvel Multiverse. He has warded off demons, gods, and conceptual noncorporeal threats from all manner of realities. His power has waned and grown at various points in time, but one cannot deny that he has earned the title of Sorcerer Supreme time and again.

The Eye of Agamatto has proven itself an indispensable tool in Strange's arsenal, and but Strange's innate tenacity and stubbornness are what has truly preserved his position as Sorcerer Supreme over the years.

3 WEAKEST: Kaecilius, An Underwhelming Lacky To Baron Mordo

Kaecilius smiling with wild eyes

Unlike the character in the Doctor Strange film, the Kaecilius of Marvel Comics is nothing more than a lacky of Baron Karl Mordo. He learned everything he knew of magic from Mordo, and he often played the part of henchmen.

He's never been a true threat to Doctor Strange, and Stephen has been able to deal with Kaecilius with little trouble on several occasions.

2 STRONGEST: Scarlet Witch, One Of The Most Powerful Beings In Existence

Scarlet Witch alters reality

Scarlet Witch may very well be the most powerful magic-user in existence--at least the most powerful magic-using mortal. Wanda Maximoff was born with an innate ability to use magic--whether this is due to her mutant gene or the experiments of High Evolutionary is somewhat nebulous. Regardless, Wanda has trained and refined her magical abilities with the help of Agatha Harkness.

However, these powers grew out of even Wanda's control when it killed some of her fellow Avengers in Avengers Disassembled and pushed her to recreate reality then almost wipe out the mutant race in House of M. However, the Scarlet Witch has remastered abilities in the time since and is once again a powerful force in the mystical corner of the Marvel Universe.

Honorable mentions must be made for other powerful magic-wielders Loki, Amora the Enchantress, Magik, Malekith the Accursed, Daimon Hellstrom, and former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Voodoo.

1 WEAKEST: The Hood, Whose Only Power Comes From Misusing Artifacts

The Hood Parker Robbins wielding yellow balls of energy

The Hood, aka Parker Robbins, has never been one who sought to teach himself the ins and outs of sorcery. However, he has, on several occasions, tripped into great magical power through no merit of his own. His original hood was a cloak possessed by Dormammu, and it gave Parker supernatural abilities before being purged of Dormammu's influence by Doctor Strange and the Avengers.

Later, Parker was given the Norn Stones by Loki, but Loki rescinded this gift during the Siege of Asgard. Another demon inherited the Hood's cloak at a later point, but Hawkeye managed to buy a demon of his own from Count Nefaria to once again strip the Hood of his magical abilities.
