Marvel puts out new heroes almost every year. Some soar and become fan-favorites like Miles Morales and Kamala Khan while others don't get enough traction or attention to leave an impact. Writers, artists, and editors at the House of Ideas are always busy dreaming up new characters who can someday become someone's favorite superhero.

The last decade was something of a renaissance for young, fresh, and idealistic heroes who've left a mark in the Marvel Universe. Many of these young heroes went on to become members of the Champions, the new Agents of Atlas, or remained solo defenders of justice.

Updated on July 7, 2022 by Scoot Allan: The release of Marvel Voices allowed creators to introduce more characters to the Marvel Universe. New heroes like Somnus and Escapade joined other characters who recently made their debut. Each new hero brought a powerful new set of abilities to the table which endeared them to some fans. These new characters proved strong examples of Marvel's next generation of heroes.

15 Aero Controls The Wind And Can Bend It To Her Will

One of the members of the New Agents of Atlas, Aero's real name is Lei Ling, and she hails from Shanghai, China. Created by Zhou Leifen and Keng, she first appears in a self-titled digital-first Chinese comic published in 2018 by NetEase and Marvel.

Aero can flt, create hurricane-force winds, and make air constructs in a manner similar to a Green Lantern. She can also use the air to detect things happening miles away, generate an air blade powerful enough to level skyscrapers, make air-based clones of herself, silence all sound around her, and fire condensed air like a laser beam.

Roberto Reyes is the latest Ghost Rider to emerge as the Spirit of Vengeance. He first appears in 2014's All-New Ghost Rider #1 by Felipe Smith and Tradd More. Robbie Reyes rides the Hell Charger, a powerful muscle car with a portal to Hell in the trunk. Robbie has been so valued by the superhero community that he's become a regular member of the current Avengers.

Reyes has the powers of his Ghost Rider contemporaries, including monstrous super-strength and durability, superspeed, the Penance Stare, and the ability to generate hellfire. Reyes also possesses an instantaneous healing factor, the ability to turn any vehicle into a hellfire-powered ride, and many other powers that make him one of the best anti-heroes in Marvel Comics.

13 Adam Blackveil Is The Genetically Perfect Human Being Known As Nightmask

Nightmask was Adam Blackveil, a genetically perfect human being created by the godlike Ex Nihilo to protect the Earth from disasters. Adam first adopted the name Nightmask (a character originally from Marvel's forgotten New Universe imprint) during Avengers #6 in 2013. This version of the character was created by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opeña.

Nightmask soon joined the Avengers and struck up a close friendship with the fledgling Starbrand who also joined the team. Nightmask could create portals, emit massive blasts of energy, create multipurpose energy halos, and had Cosmic Awareness — a sixth sense allowing him to foresee disasters and understand things normal humans couldn't.

12 Kid Gladiator Is The Superpowered Son Of The Majestrix Of The Shi'ar Empire

Kubark/Kid Gladiator is the son of Kallark the Gladiator, the Majestrix of the Shi'ar Empire and head of its Imperial Guard. Kubark is a Strontian, one of the most powerful species in the universe. Created by Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo, he first appears in Wolverine and the X-Men #1 in 2011.

As a Strontian, Kid Gladiator pretty much has the same powerset as a Kryptonian. He can fly, move superfast, has immense super strength, can shoot energy from his eyes, and is completely invulnerable. He hasn't been seen much since the end of Wolverine and the X-Men, but he has been sighted on Krakoa.

11 American Kaiju Was The U.S. Army's Very Own Giant Patriotic Lizard Monster

Todd Ziller was a volunteer for the next generation of the super-soldier serum. Unfortunately, it was a slapdash mixture of The Lizard's formula, Pym Particles, gamma radiation, and Mutant Growth Hormone. The end result was the American Kaiju, a vast patriotic monster dedicated to defending the United States.

American Kaiju was created by Al Ewing and Gerardo Sandoval and first appeared in Avengers #0 in 2015. This giant lizard was mostly used to harass Sunspot's Avengers Idea Mechanics organization, but he was recently seen fighting off Knull's symbiote dragons during King in Black.

10 Kei Kawade Is An Inhuman Who Can Summon Any Kaiju He Can Imagine

Kei Kawade is a new Inhuman with an uncanny ability to summon, create, and communicate with any kaiju he draws. This means he can summon existing kaiju like Fin Fang Foom and Devil Dinosaur, or he can create brand new kaiju.

Kei Kawade first appeared in Monsters Unleashed #1 in 2017 and was created by Greg Pak, Frank Cho, and Terry Dodson. Kei had his own ongoing series also titled Monsters Unleashed for a time, but it didn't last very long.

9 America Chavez Is The Champion Of The Utopian Parallel Who Can Kick Holes In Reality

Miss America is one of Marvel's most powerful heroes of all time. America Chavez comes from the other-dimensional paradise known as the Utopian Parallel, but she's sent away by her parents to save her life. She's been unable to return to the Utopian Parallel since then. Created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta, she first appears in Vengeance #1 in 2011.

America Chavez has become one of the most powerful Young Avengers and joins Captain Marvel's Ultimates team and Kate Bishop's West Coast Avengers. America can fly, deliver a powerful punch, and kick dimensional portals into existence. She's super-strong, nigh-invulnerable, superfast and has her own form of cosmic awareness.

8 Kevin Connor Was The Cosmic Protector Of Earth Known As Starbrand Before It Passed On

Kevin Connor's rebirth as the Starbrand was disastrous, as the energy explosion killed everyone for miles around. This occurred in Avengers #7 by Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver in 2013. However, it also gave Kevin immense power and got the attention of the Avengers. Starbrand originally appeared in Marvel's New Universe, but with a different host.

The Star Brand gave Kevin the powers of energy manipulation, matter manipulation, flight, incredible strength, and countless other powers. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to save him when Robbie Reyes, completely under the control of the Ghost Rider, killed Kevin in Marvel Legacy #1. Since then, a child named Selby inherited the Star Brand.

7 Weapon H Is The Genetically-Modified Union Of Hulk And Wolverine

Clayton Cortez was forcibly enhanced to be a Weapon of Mutant Destruction by Weapon X. They used genetic material from Wolverine and the Hulk to turn him into Weapon H. First appearing in Totally Awesome Hulk #21 by Greg Pak and Mike Deodato Jr. in 2017, Weapon H has all the strength and regeneration of the Hulk and Wolverine combined as well as adamantium claws.

Weapon H had an encounter with Amadeus Cho as the Hulk and a small squad of mutants made up of Old Man Logan, Sabretooth, Domino, Lady Deathstrike, and Warpath. Weapon H escaped them and tried to lie low for a time. He even had his own comic series, but it was fairly short-lived. He surfaced again and fought off a symbiote invasion during Absolute Carnage.

6 Ex Nihilo Is A Powerful Universal Being Who Creates Something From Nothing

Ex Nihilo is practically a god unto himself. Created by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opeña in Avengers #1 in 2012, Nihilo can create and manipulate matter, has special control over floral life, and can breathe fire.

Ex Nihilo comes from an entire race that can do the same. He helps the Avengers during the Builders War and tries to stop the end of all things during Time Runs Out. Unfortunately, Ex Nihilo and his race are killed by the Beyonders' invasion.

5 Rūna Was An Early Valkyrie Who Returned During King In Black

Fans fell in love with Tessa Thompson's take on the character Valkyrie who appeared on the big screen in Thor: Ragnarok. A comic version of the character previously appeared in the multiversal Exiles series, but another version recently appeared in the mainstream reality.

Rūna first appeared in King in Black: Return of the Valkyries #1 by Jason Aaron, Torunn Grønbekk and Nina Vakueva. While she's a new character, it was revealed Rūna was actually one of the first Asgardian Valkyries and the first wielder of Thor's ax Jarnbjorn. Rūna was trapped inside an undead Celestial for centuries until she was freed to fight Knull and his dark forces.

4 Carl Valentino Is A Mutant Who Can Control Dreams As Somnus

Marvel Voices: Pride #1 featured the first appearance of a powerful new mutant known as Somnus, who was created by Steve Orlando, Claudia Aguirre, and Luciano Vecchio. Carl Valentino had shared a close relationship with Daken in the past, however, his mutant power gave the X-Factor member a dream of their possible future together and scared Daken away.

Carl lived a full life and passed on in the present day. However, when Daken heard about his death, he brought Valentino back to life on Krakoa. Valentino's powerful ability to view and manipulate the dreams of others earned him the new name Somnus, the Roman personification of sleep.

3 Fadi Fadlalah Can Generate Powerful Mystical Shields As Amulet

Fadi Fadlalah first encountered Kamala Khan in Magnificient Ms. Marvel #13 by Saladin Ahmed and Sara Alfageeh. Fadi carried on his family's legacy as Amulet, a hero empowered with magic and sworn to an ongoing quest to protect the world from an ancient evil.

Amulet's costume and abilities are based on the nazar sigils he uses to create powerful shields of mystical energy. He can use these to protect himself and others, he can use them as weapons in offensive situations, and he's faced powerful monsters as a legacy hero.

2 Connor Young Found An Amulet And Became The New Darkhawk

The character Darkhawk first appeared in the '90s when Chris Powell found a mystical amulet that encased him in a powerful suit of armor. While he had many adventures and evolved into a cosmic hero over the years, a new hero recently appeared in the role. Connor Young was created by Kyle Higgins, Pepe Larraz and Juanan Ramírez in Darkhawk #1.

Connor was a high school basketball player diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He found a mysterious amulet that transformed him into a new version of Darkhawk. His armor was different than the original's and seemingly more advanced. Young's time as Darkhawk was plagued with lingering questions about Chris Powell's disappearance.

1 Dr. Badr Is A Follower Of Khonshu Who Operates As Hunter's Moon

Marc Spector became the Fist of Khonshu when he donned his ceremonial costume as Moon Knight. However, he recently learned Khonshu had more than one fist operating around the world. Dr. Badr first appeared in Moon Knight #1 by Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio. He became a follower of Khonshu after he was nearly killed by a vampire.

As Hunter's Moon, Dr. Badr took it upon himself to challenge Moon Knight after Spector abandoned Khonshu in favor of his own Midnight Mission. Hunter's Moon has all the memories of the previous characters who became Khonshu's Moon Knight, making him one of Marvel's best hand-to-hand fighters. He eventually began working as Spector's ally at the Midnight Mission.
