A new Star Wars: The High Republic comic book series will explore a mystery that's plagued the second wave of books.

Star Wars: The High Republic - Trail of Shadows, by Daniel José Older and David Wachter, follows Jedi Knight Emerick Caphtor and private detective Sian Holt as they investigate a mystery that has ties to the Jedi Order. The series will also touch upon events that happened at the Republic Fair, which will be integral to the second wave of High Republic novels, such as Cavan Scott's The Rising Storm.

"There are so many weird and terrifying threads to unravel here, and David Wachter’s excellent art fits the mood, urgency, and depth of this story perfectly," Older told StarWars.com. "I am beyond excited to be working on this thrilling, creepy, delightful story." Older also noted that Trail of Shadows fuses his lifelong love of noir stories and the Star Wars universe.

"We’re exploring a new corner of The High Republic with Trail of Shadows, in which we get to see another side of the Jedi and the Republic," Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain added, comparing Emerick and Sian's interactions to Mulder and Scully from The X-Files.

Star Wars: The High Republic - Trail of Shadows #1, by Daniel José Older and David Wachter, goes on sale in October from Marvel Comics.
