With Star Wars' High Republic publishing initiative officially underway, Marvel Comics' Star Wars: The High Republic #1 has become the latest major comic book to see significant markup on eBay.

The High Republic #1 went on sale from Marvel yesterday with a cover price of $3.99 USD. However, asking prices for the issue on eBay are currently hovering around $15, plus shipping -- and that's just for the main cover. Listings for the various variant covers available for The High Republic #1 come with even higher price tags. Ario Anindito's variant is hovering closer to $20, while Stephanie Hans's variant ranges from $30 to $40. Meanwhile, the average asking price for Sway's variant cover is a whopping $70.

Of course, when discussing eBay listings, it's important to note that these prices aren't necessarily what buyers are paying, just was sellers are asking for. Still, those who weren't able to pick up a first-edition copy of The High Republic #1 at their local comic shop and now have to turn to eBay will likely have to shell out more than they were originally expecting. This isn't entirely surprising, however, as the issue has already sold out not one, but two printings, with a third on the way. The third printing of Marvel's High Republic #1 is slated to hit shops on Feb. 10.

Written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Ario Anindito with inks by Mark Morales, colors by Annalisa Leoni and letters by Ariana Maher, Star Wars: The High Republic #1 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
