Marvel Comics has released a preview of its new Star Wars series starring Darth Vader, with the title taking place during the time period immediately following the events of The Empire Strikes Back

Written by Greg Pak and illustrated by Raffaele Ienco, the new series opens with the eponymous Sith Lord visiting his stepbrother's home on Tatooine after his fateful lightsaber duel with Luke Skywalker in Cloud City. Marvel has released a full preview of the opening issue -- along with the standard cover by Inhyuk Lee and variant cover by Mike Del Mundo -- featuring Vader confronting his past as Anakin Skywalker.

"The new Darth Vader series explores some very important events from Anakin Skywalker’s past and shows a side of the Dark Lord we’ve never seen before," declared editor Mark Paniccia in a written statement. "We’ll be uncovering secrets right along with him including a last-page shocker that’s guaranteed to have Star Wars fans talking.”

With Vader still haunted by the death of his wife Padme Amidala and the secret that his son had survived without him for decades, the Imperial Sith Lord is sure to seek out those he finds personally responsible. And, given Vader's reputation, the results won't be pretty.
