r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, one of the biggest subreddits dedicated to Marvel on Reddit, has officially shut down amid an ongoing legal battle with Marvel Studios.

Reddit's r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers was officially set to private on March 13, though a final post was made by the subreddit's shared /u/MSSmods account before the community officially closed. "This subreddit was created by 'someone' because they hated going to the Marvel Studios subreddit," read the post, titled "This Might Be the End." "They wanted to know about the stuff that was coming up, leaks, spoilers, etc...but they had such a strong policy that you couldn't talk about anything without it being removed, banned, or messaged."

According to the post, r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers had "grown so large that people from the MCU know of it. Sadly, this means Disney also knows of it. The Mouse always wins...a lesson I learned from South Park." The post also alluded to reports of an ongoing legal battle between Reddit, Google and Marvel Studios regarding script leaks from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in January. "Ain't nobody got time for that...and so there will no longer be any mods, the subreddit will operate on its own essentially," the post concluded. It's worth noting that subreddits will sometimes close or privatize amid controversy but eventually open back up again. At the time of writing, it is unclear in what capacity r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers will continue.

The closure of r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers comes amid reports that Marvel Studios had issued a DMCA subpoena application in the United States District for the Northern District of California demanding Reddit identify the users who leaked a dialogue transcript of Quantumania before the film's release. The application was filed on March 10 and requests all information in relation to u/MSSmods and any user involved in posting copyrighted content between Jan. 15 and Feb. 15.

"Reddit is committed to protecting our users' privacy," Reddit wrote in a statement responding to Marvel's application. "We have rigorous processes in place to assess legal requests and object when appropriate." On Jan. 21, Disney filed a copyright takedown of the leak after the 63-page document was shared by u/MSSmods in a post titled "[TFTMQ] Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Detailed Dialog." The thread has since been deleted, though it was archived in Google Docs. This archive was also subpoenaed.

Marvel Studios' anti-spoiler tactics are no secret. Captain America: New World Order star Anthony Mackie recently spoke about the lengths Marvel went to keep the film's script from leaking. "I got my [Captain America: New World Order] script today -- haven't read it, haven't opened it," he said. "I haven't got my passcode to the website, that lets you get to the website... we literally get a passcode to a website that gives us a location to meet the person to sign, to sit with a computer and read our script... [Marvel Studios] don't trust nobody."
